The trout are always hungry and although aphids have now appeared we have an abundance of beneficial predators and parasites like lacewing larva, wasps, hoverfly and ladybird larva. My system has been on camera again and is likely to appear the next two weeks on Garden Gurus channel 9 Perth 5.30. Not a whole story as such but a few snippets. They have now spent 3 days filming here and I have made my debut appearance. I will also be at the Royal show Saturday 11 - 1.30 doing 2 aquaponic sessions in the Garden Gurus 1200sqm show garden.

Kale and rainbow chard are looking great and there is about half a punnet of the first strawberries to pick. Asparagus spears are up to size but not proven to be a great asset for return on investment so far.

Does the Asparagus block up your grow bed ?
We were going to put some in but we were worried it would take up the bed

Hi Redbeard, the asparagus hasn't cause root problems like the sweet potato and mint do and is away from the business end but takes up valuable real estate. It sits dormant during the cool months and has been in for more than a couple of years. It has flowered and also set seed, it grows but think I would continue in the ground as it hasn't been a star performer.

I think I'll get another bath to grow it in thanks mate

Side salad or centrepiece? Aquaponic salad with pickled nasturtium seeds and flowers, red coral lettuce, cherry toms, spring onion and parsley served with nasturtium vinegar. Spring is definately here.

I didn't even think about asparagus in AP - can't you suggest any tips for it Faye?

Give it some space Jayendra, it creates lots of roots. I would recommend buying two and try one in the ground for comparison. Ive decided to do certain things in my ap system and others in the ground or raised beds.

Hi Faye. Does anybody else's system even come close to yours? Not meaning any disrespect to others but many look like disaster zones. What is your secret. Is it in the planning. In the consistent methodical approach to maintenance? I desperately want to build a system but don't want it to look like a recyclers nightmare. Are there any other systems that look half as good as yours on this forum? I have 8000m of landscaped gardens but the water rates are killing me. I want to turn out most of my cultivated gardens and concentrate on a largish system growing for our needs and others who have children with food allergies.
