Just been out and done my 1st water test for at least 6 weeks if not longer.
Ammonia .25
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 10
PH 8.0

I did add some iron chelates a couple of weeks ago as things were yellowing. The Ph is still high but it's been up there since the system was set up.
Fish and plants doing well and the PH will sort it's self in time.

I'm happy I still have a trace of Ammonia and a Nitrate reading, am only feeding lightly every 2nd or 3rd day as all I am feeding is the gold fish.

All in all very happy and the system is ticking over nicely.

The peas we planted the other weekend look to be sending out roots, all going well they will be up in a few days. No sign of the carrot seed or the Red Ridicio (I know I have spelt that wrong)

The system seems to be ticking along very well with just the Sp's and gold fish.

Here's a small system I have set-up on the driveway.

Did a water test this morning and the Ammonia is under control just need to get the Nitrite down. Just giving the 4 goldfish a little food every couple of days, it's not like they need it there huge!!

And here is an up-date of the main system from early last month. Hope to do a new one this weekend.

Cool.... Thats what we did with our siphon, a hole up the drain pipe seems to help it stop easily..

It also seems to act as a venturi too. The 2 holes are all I have in the outlet pipe now as I am trying to make it as quiet as possible so as not to disturb the neighbours.

A bit cool here this morning -1 degree at 7.30am, went out and checked the FT water and it was 6 degrees. All the SP's were huddled together trying to keep warm, when I opened the lid they all scattered, they seem happy enough!

Hope you have more luck than I did. My silvers all gone but my trout seem to be doing well.

Holpefully there will be a bit of warmer weather on the way to get a little feed into them.. Ours should be eating today, quite a nice day here, sun should help warm the water a bit.

They have been nibbling at lettuce leaves which I keep floating in the tank. Also been feeding the gold fish every day but haven't seen them take any but they maybe from time to time?

I meant to say I haven't seen the Sp's eat anything, the gold fish are like hoovers!

I have goldies and SP together and notice the same thing... but they all look happy
