Another thing could have been less oxygen in rff from the fish poo BOD. Once cleared out your nitrifying bacteria kicked back into gear :-) converting that ammonia content you had.. That's what happened when I installed a MBBR in my system. All of a sudden low to no ammonia with a spike of nitrates. I am still battling those nitrates.. I don't want to remove fish yet as I am planning to add a larger raft bed..

ok 4 days has passed so I said to myself.. its time for a quick update.
amm 0ppm
nitrite 0ppm
nitrates 30-40ppm
ph 7
EC 510 uS/cm

well everything is better now. NO MORE nitrite spikes to I'm glad. water is the clearest I'm see in yrs so all is well. Plants are in their bloom especially the Cucumbers. it seem I have male cucumber vine since there is no fruiting flowers. but there is plenty of male for pollination so all is well. ok on to pics.

On the plant you were asking about, if you cut one of the stems and the cross section is square then it's probably in the mint family (Lamiaceae) which is what it looks like to me.

Cheers

seems like I had too much fish load onto the system so the removal of the excess fishes solved my nitrite problems.

all so I was asking around and it seems to be stinging nettle.. I didn't plant it but it look like the seeds blew in and grew.
thx for compliments Samuel..

Nettles have a lot of uses. Young plants and shoots are used as a green in soups and the like, old plants use to be used for fiber to make cloth.

The stings are on the older stems and underside of leaves.

Stinging nettles were a regular part of the flora where I grew up. I walked into them on more than one occasion. Not fun.
