The plant growth is almost as much fun as the fish isn't it? :)

added some seasol today for the trace elements whilst the system is winding up. Must say it scared me a bit seeing the water go brown, but not as much as it scared the fish. They bolted away from this new addition and a couple of them, temporarily blinded, banged right into the side of the tank at full speed. Part of me felt sorry, but the overriding emotion was laughter. Poor fish. They haven't carked it yet but i am watching them closely.
They have started to feed as soon as the pellets are thrown in. Found a few slugs and slaters which disappeared very quickly. I also found a 5cm mudeye in my garden bed and threw that in. It is a bit big for them at the moment but i expect they will rip it up tonight.
Took a heap of other photos today re:proposed greenhouse site, but i think i accidently deleted the file. Have another go on the weekend.
We had 13mm rain the other morning so my 13600lt tank is now half full. 1000lt tank out the front is chockers, we may have to transfer some to the biggie as more rain is expected Friday.

Fish not eating today, prolly can't see the food bc of the cloudy seasol addition. I put 150ml in 1000lts via the drainpipes and thought i was doing a GOOD thing. Perhaps not.
Given Worms trials and tribulations i may add some salt 2moro but will do some testing first. Didn't feed tonight.
I can't believe how quick things grow in these systems. You can see growth day by day without much in the way of water inputs. Gotta be good, (if i don't kill the fish first.)

FF in another life i was a seasol agent 20 yrs ago and couldn't get anyone to buy it,(and i am a good salesman!) I was only 20 tho and the old Werribee farmers just used to look at me sideways. I have just had this affinity with natural garden products for as long as i remember.
Asitis, my system will not seem so gr8 when you catch up on other threads. Thankyou anywho, i must say i am enjoying the learning and have started to get the missus on side with caulis at 5bucks per head at the supermarket!
Backyard AP seems to me a smaller but quicker and more concentrated version of what happens in nature. We force the fish a bit for growth and nutrients but the principle is the same. In nature, forests filter water that drains to streams to feed fish to produce food for carnivores that shit and feed the forest when it rains. We just do it on a smaller scale. (Except for Jaymie who i hear has plans to use Lake Eyre as a fishtank and Qld as a GB!)

lol lake eyre, yeh! You know with Jamie its restling sharks and diverting the murray river (if there's anythin left) for her AP ventures, nothin short, I have come to suspect Axl has some input as well, maybe ;) .

In your description you seem to have a great grasp of the larger context of the AP principle. I often take my children down to the local river and fish and contemplate the way everything is interconnected. From this view we treat every action with far more importance than we do from a fragmented point of view.

Can wait to see more...

And I wont read too much into the other threads ;), doing a great job !

How big are your fish TT? Mudeyes are pretty voracious predators and if there is nothing else in you system to eat they may succesfully take out a small fish.

Um, Jaymie, let's just say it's a little different to the brown variety. My understanding is they are juvenile (sp) dragon flies but i may be wrong.
My fish are 20cm so they were able to handle it but it was fun watching.

In my real life Asitis i sell a one of a kind product that every busy licensed venue needs. I am so impressed by this AP stuff tho i am thinking about bolting it on to my wholesale wine business. I already deliver wine to the pubs and clubs, so it would be no trouble to drop in some lettuce and herbs. As they say, if people are happy to buy one thing from you, they will always buy more.
To do this would mean buying a bit of land, employing people etc, so i will get my greenhouse up and running b4 chrissy and try and make all my mistakes here at home first b4 jumping in the deep end, (which i have a tendency to do.) Thanks for the support guys and gals.
