Faye would have been at work on time, however she was easily distracted by the hungry fish and the sight of the beautiful okra plants flowering, so naturally out came the camera, as you do!
It is getting later in the Barramundi season and soon it wil be time to plant up the new seasonal plants, but first the fish must be thinned and the beds need to be cleared a little. One bed in particular has been neglected and derooted this last weekend. It was the bed that had a weed germinate, which grew to an enormous size due to laziness and for the fact that I spent 2/12 weeks cruising instead of gardening. Anyways back on the horse. Over the next three weeks I will harvest my fish, currently a mix of Baramundi and some large silver perch, which have been largely ignored due to the fact they are not as much fun as rainbow trout and I have taken them for granted. I do rather admire how big they have grown over the summer months since placing them in my large tank.

These are quite edible when they are ripe and turned colour, I have eaten them and lived to tell the tale, this lot were al taken directly to the chicken pen so the girls could forage and feast.

This nasty ladybug that eats the foliage of things like capsicum, eggplant, tomato and potatoes.

The fruits of the okra plant are delightful picked when young and eaten straight from the plant. I reckon they taste like a fresh bean, crisp and crunchy, and a beautiful star pattern if cut crossways for addition to a salad. Mine hardly ever make it to the cooking stage.

Umm big :dontknow:
Well he's too big for the deep fryer.
I suppose I have to measure him (See below for reason I know he is male) and weigh him and I guess you'll want photos, with toes.
I'mm still deciding exactly how to cook him.
My list of condiments and accessories that includes homegrown and from the shop (the BYAP shop) includes chilli, lemongrass, sawtooth coriander, ginger, banana leaves, chives, kaffir lime leaves, lemon, garlic chives and vietnamese mint or laksa leaf.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Virtually all Barramundi are born male, then turn into females when they are 3 - 4 years old. This means female Barramundi can only be courted by younger men!

Yeah, I am pretty happy, despite the fact that I felt like they have been neglected, they will take 9 handfulls at a good feed. I don't feed them very regularly though
They went in mid January, as the temps weren't in my opinion, worth the hassle of hurrying them in and then waking up at night checking on them because the weather is too cold. Our summer this year seems to be endless though, with heat and humidity continuing. I am very happy to pay for larger barramundi, put some weight on them and harvest in time for trout, whom I love :love4:
Stocked with 20 barramundi mid April. I will try to find the estimated weight and cost. (I'm thinking around 400 gram and maybe $8-10 each.) I'm happy with that, they feed my veges and 5cm goldfish are probably $4 to $5, what do you reckon is better value?
Hi Lloyd, the main fish tank is 3000 litres, but the water level gets down to around 1500 litres before I top it up from either the rainwater tank or bore water, we don't have sceme water here.
