Hey mate, how are those SP going? couldn't see them in the video? :dontknow:
If you've read, I've had some losses in my system. are you salting your system? Maybe wise to salt to 1ppt just in case. didn't notice any problems till a few weeks after the swap so I havnt ruled out that it might be just been caused by stress either.

Yeah, I read last week that you have a few losses, so last night I salted 1ppm just in case there is something going around. But as far as I know I have not lost any trout. Yes the silvers are there I seen at lease 4 hanging around the bottom of the tank at one time. pretty quite though.
hows the trout going??

how are the plants doing? only saw a glimpse of some small ones poking up in the vid...

here's some photos of the plants, did have some shade cloth over the hot house which stopped the growth a little, but all is still going great. removed the shade cloth and now the greens are exploding.

Exploding indeed it is! So do tell, are you adding trace minerals, i.e. potassium and calcium and iron, and how are you adding them?

The only thing ive added was some chelted iron when my ph was high, but since its dropped I've haven't had a problem. Also added some salt a week or so ago because Bundybear is having issues with his system with some growth on his fish in which we did a swap and I now have 8 of his silver perch. Otherwise the only other input is fish food.

Matt

Here's a bit of an update,

all is still going well with Trout around the 300mm mark
Moved a few trout into my second system which is up and running now. I have
around 20 trout in each tank. feeding twice a day for the past 3 week to see if I can get the weight on them.
Thinking that this is the system that i want to run via solar power 20w is what is required to run it, If I keep it stocked at a low rate, there should be more time up my sleeve if something goes wrong,

anyway here's a photo of how things are progressing..

Regards
Matt

well last night my wife asked what we were going to have for dinner, I suggested that we could have smoked trout, so we pulled out some trout and smoked them yummy :D
the largest was around 270mm and weighed 240g. hopefully I can get more weight on them before November - December arrives. Pulled five in total which feed us (4) with a meal still left over. Overall very happy with the first harvest of fish.

here is some photos

regards
matt

Nice work Matt! They definately will get more weight on them! I'm going to cull mine in November and leave just a handful to see how long I can push it. Yours should get to 450-500grams by then if you feed at least 2 times a day. If you can get away with 3 then go for it. My trout are going 2 times a day during the week and 3 times a day on weekends. I was having a no feed day, but have stoped that an feeding every day. Keep pumping the feed and they will stack it on! Man looking at your smoked trout has got the mouth watering....got to build that bloody smoker quick smart!

Well it been while since Ive up dated here but finally got around to taking some photos.

Haven't had any major problems with system, and it has performed well above my expectations, It raised on average about 20 trout up to around 300mm long and about 300g in weight, All who came around were treated with smoked trout and fresh veggies.

ATM It has no fish in it because there seems to be an insect swimming in the water, Its very small (1mm, see photo) and i'm a little worried about placing fingerlings in. Yesterday I purchased 50 SP from Glenburn and placed them in my other system :D Went to get a photo of them swimming around but could hardly see them.
