hi Gemmell, we have 29 out of 60. It was an experience we would prefer never to repeat. They are now very alert, and enjoy splashing around the tank.

Are you going to get any more trout? Did Tooperang have a cheeper price per 100? I was thinking of getting 20-30 for winter because I dont think I'll be getting my solar heater hooked up until the end of the year.

Hi KE, they are selling the trout at $1.25 for amounts over 50, unfortunately I cant remember what the were going for if you purchase under 50 fish.

29 out of 60 aint so bad. Most peeps on this forum have suffered some losses. There are of course freaks, I believe VB didn't loose any first go. I lost 50 koi. I learnt from it and hopefully will never make the same mistake(s).

Reckon you were a bit stiff guys. With the recent heatwave over there, they were prolly already stressed before you got them. Shipping just put them over the edge. Here's hoping the worst is behind ya and things kick along.

Trout could be a victim of our ever warming country. Good article in the latest Austasia Aquaculture mag about the Ballarat Hatchery, '...some people suggest that the days of the trout are becoming increasingly limited and trout may be succumbing to the ravages of climate change. This is definitely evident within the Ballarat region...'
Their water is flow thru 12Meg a day, half what it used to be, usually 16C but has been as high as 28C, lotta dead fishies when they hit that number.

Taking this one step further, I think we will see more warm water native fin fish in more southerly locations, assuming there is any water left in the rivers to support them.

We didn't get anywhere near what you guys had. What was it, 15 in a row over 30C? I am surprised there are ANY trout left in SA! I don't know for sure what they got to temp wise at Ballarat this year but hit 26C last year.
Sorry bout the hijack TH, and Mon I wasn't having a crack, had just finished reading the article and it was fresh in my mind, dasall.

No Worries TT, all information is worth noting.

Just pulled the first radish and snow peas from the system, even with all the trouble we have had with the fish at the begining of the week we have had some great growth in the vegies.

After what 3 weeks, we have not lost anymore fish. They seem to be healthy and the usual trout display of acrobats at feeding time. However due to the Ammonia still hovering at 1 the poor things are being fed minimal amounts roughly every 3 days (just cant bring ourselves to let them go without any longer than that).

How long can they go without feed?
Do we have any other options to lower the ammonia?

have you tested just plain water to make sure that your test kit isn't screwed?
