Flood and drain with a syphon, but I went through the side and have some troubles with it. I have bought some drains which go through the bottom where you can stick a 25mm standpipe inside (i don't know how they are called) but I don't want to disturb the plants to change the setup.

They are called risers at the irrigation store I get mine from. All my GBs have 25mm poly standpipes with 2 X 8mm holes at the bases for draining, cut off at a suitable flood height, or in a couple of cases, 2 more 8mm holes just below the top of them, when I needed to do some fine tuning after putting in a larger pump.

To remove, I just grab the top of them with pliers and unscrew.

The part that goes through the bottom of the GB with seals, into which the standpipe screws? That's a tank flange.

Really? Here in B I only found the threaded ones and they were a really cheap quality, one of the lock ring split while tightening up with my fingers.

Sounds like junk! Get Plasson or Guyco brand, I tighten them with multigrips with no danger of stripping threads, splitting fittings etc.

Gunagulla, in Darwin you have to buy what's on the shelf or wait for delivery. Even priority overnight air is normally 2 nights. The ones from the irrigation place are much better, wider flange, lock nut and 2 seals.

We had the first rain for the wet, 35mm in just over one hour, gave me a good 200 to 250 later which dropped the pH by 0.2 to 7.6 and amazingly the water temp went from 30 degrees Celsius down to 25 and up again by next afternoon to 31.

The drop in water temperature can only be explained with the water not mixing properly and the cold water layer got pumped into the ft and went straight out through the slo , because the temp sensor is located in the SLO riser pipe. To cool down the 3000l by 5 degrees the rain must have been hail. ;-)

Check page 3 of my system if it is the tank flange you are thinking of. Cheers

Is the rabbit cage mosquito proof or do you not get myxomatosis or calicivirus up your way?

that is a pretty good question, Simo

I got a mate who has rabbits and Guinea pigs and he didn't tell me anything about that, but I will definitely get some info about that.

so it is not mosquito proof, but it is all metal, so maybe I could transform it into a mosquito zapper *evil*

Cheers
