ell, can you keep me informed on how the grow beds go as I have considered them. You can also get them from brookfield produce, at brookfield. they are about $140 from out there.

Nick - not a problem, I rang and ordered them, (took 2 days) went for a nice drive and tossed them on the ute, don't know where you are located but if you want to see them, pm me, I'm south of Caboolture

thanks ell,
really just need to know whether black tub will hold the gravel without blowing out and if so what type of support is required to keep it in place.

A general question for all, do you think the blowout will be better or worse with the gravel compared to water? THe example of water i guess is murrays 600l tank that he had to make a frame for.

This was my concern when I saw the pictures and was prepared to add some support, but after seeing it and physically trying to push the sides out, I don't think this is going to happen (blow out), the trough has been designed so that it naturally curves inwards to cater for sideways pressure - obviously I will be watching very carefully when adding gravel and post the outcome (success or failure), the blue ones will need support and am looking at burying them.

Update - cut the pipes for the frame of the green house and marked out the area - now digging out the grass and will pack it down and level off with some cheap scoria or whatever.

Replaced the ute windscreen today (insurance claim) so didn't get much time to do any research on valves but did get some contacts to chase - more tommorrow

Go Ell!

I like watching other people spend money and dig holes and wash gravel, etc.

Good luck on the contact chasing Les. Sounds like you are really on a roll.

What you are doing sounds good Les. Can't wait to see your greenhouse finished (so I can copy you).

Yeah, I'm gonna start building mine for people some time next year if I can get it rolling, so I'll be pretty interested in seeing yours too. I have bitten the bullet and gone part time for work in order to spend more time on AP and greenhouses, hopefully with the option of building simple enclosed systems here in Adelaide. Trying to live the dream or something like that.

Sorry for the hijack Les

I got 32nb gal pipe and fittings, could go down to 25nb and still have plenty of strength but I thought safer to go larger, I am going to just put a roof cover on 1st and possibly have shade cloth on the sides (especially for summer) - will then assess what is best for winter.

Using "T's" saves on welding Monya (my welding is worse than my concreting, my concreting can be described best as "functional")

vb, will show pics of finished product and document what I have used etc

Nick,

I have the green version of the budget trough as a growbed, and the gravel flattens out the bulges in the bottom of the trough, and the sides straighten up nicely.

Will take a photo this weekend and post in my thread, which has been lacking updates anyway.

Also picking up beds 2, 3 and 4 this weekend at Brookfield, so will be working on expanding my system and soon will be washing more gravel again.

Karel

El, with you on the tee's and X's. I used them wherever possible in mine. My welding, as with your concreting is functional too!!
