Thanks TCLynx I had a look also at outbackozzie's thread and noticed he had cut the barrels as you suggest, I realised then that it would be a lot easier cutting them around the middle. Im pretty sure I can get them for about $20/ 200L barrel so not too bad I guess?

Is it true that you should aim to match the volume in your tank in grow beds? (Eg. 800L spa = 4 full barrels/8 half barrels?)

That's an average price for blue barrels yes.
you should try to match at a minimum yes.
Ideal is twice that, so 8 full barrels, 4 half barrels.

Thanks KudaPucat - but confused when you said 8 full, 4 half - wouldnt 8 full be 16 halves? Maybe I confused you when I wrote 4 full barrels/8 half barrels? (meaning they both equal 800L, not that I would be getting 4 full barrels AND 8 half barrels) :colors:

Well I know everyone here loves pics so here are a couple (sorry not exciting ones)

This is the spa Im thinking of using (still wondering whether its just easier to get an IBC????) As you can see its fibreglass and has been out in the weather (ie. rain) for some time so hoping wont have any chemical issues.

Here is the pump in question......

and still connected to the power is the old filter, heater and blower. Doubt any of this could be of use?! Maybe an industrial strength airator?!

I picked up 380ltr tanks for $160 to $200.ImageImage
Then you could use the spa as a spa.Image

The spa was a spa dufflight !!

I ripped it out due to lack of use - stupid 70's design (not exactly comfortable) and the constant need to change the water every 3 months due to chemical saturation. (Im on tank water only). But all the associated gear with was in perfect working order 8)

Way that spa is shaped... just begging to have some marron in the central part... screened over... so the fish above can't get to them...

Not quite as bad as I thought, thats the baby of their line. Nice pumps however that will push about 300lpm at a small head ie 3minutes and the FT is empty. Think that and the aerator is a save for your larger system. :)
$240 seems pricey for an ibc, don't know what NSW prices are like though.
Last time I priced them here it was just over $100 for a you work out what was in them and determine whether its safe and just over $200 for a only carried food stuff and has been cleaned and washed.

Now we get into the great price debate.....why pay that sort of money for 1kL, when would rather start looking at a mega feed or water trough, if not water tank for better value for your dollar......

Shop around......honestly
