Nitrite levels still are high. 1-2ppm, not as bad as a few days ago however. we do a 5-10% water change a day and have been seeding the system with mature tank water.

We'll see!!

From what i see, your system has cycled, and doesn't need the water changes any more ??? Would anyone like to correct me on this one. If I had those readings of nitrae and nitrite I would be stoked, my system runs on 0 ppm, and it bugs me endlessly :colors:

Yep - just leave it alone now. That remaining trace of nitrite and ammonia will be gone in a day or two.

Jessy - you dont want any nitrite readings at all. Nitrates are what you want - but as you know plant growth at 0 nitrates is still excellent :D

Yeah righto, OBO, was thinking if had a slight reading of nitrites, then would be getting the nitrates conversion out of it pretty soon

No, if you have nitrites at all, you have not really cycled, or you are overloading your bio filter.

Conversely, if you have no nitrates, you have not really cycled, or you have too many plants.

Obviously you have cycled, so, like me, you have too many plants. The results are still good.

You'd probably find that there was a small ammonia spike just before the nitrite spike as well.

Thanks folks. I am a bit relieved that we're getting past the nitrite spike. SOme of the fish don't look so good (the smaller ones). Some of them have red spots. I think its probably just the stress of the spike. It was weird, I had 4 koi that were missing an eye but otherwise seemed perfectly healthy. Kinda creepy.

But otherwise the fish look OK. the bigger ones seem as happy as can be. I fed them a little bit and all were very hungry.

We will continue to monitor nutes. I'll post updated graphs later.

It's not uncommon for some types of goldfish/koi to suck the eyes out of their mates...

Yeah it looks like they were not born that way. I think, as rupe said, they sucked the eyes out of their mates. Some mates huh? They must have been hungry after not feeding them for a few days!

Here's the updated nute levels. Looking much better, had a couple fish dead this morning. But otherwise looking good. Fed the fish a little today and man were they hungry.

The graph is pretty cool. You can see the indirect relationships of the nutrients. Plus you can see the days where we did water changes. All nutrients dropped.
