Easy peasy...but they like it coldish!
The hard bit is finding a good strain,
and then keeping the fruit on the plant until they are ripe
Our goannas and dugites love them...
so now they grow off the ground

Cool, Thanks for the info. I checked the seeds today before I came into work. The cucumbers and some of the greens have already sprouted. I just planted them Saturday. I plan to drain the ugly water today and add the fish water from the garden pond. I am also going to try to catch some of the goldfish for the system until I can find a place to purchase some eatable fish.

I've been reading a lot of information here and I have a question. Have any of you used a UV sterilizer on your systems to promote good fish health and cut down on algae problems?

Welcome RM!

The tall beds are 25 gallon Sterilite tubs, yes? Be careful if you have to move them as under stress they can be punctured easily. Make sure the electrical strip is mounted out of the reach of the little one. Is it on a GFCI outlet? The 110 gallon tub is also a good piece, mine has been used as a main tank and now as a sump. Might want to make a timber frame of 2x4s around the 25 gallon tubs to keep them from bowing out over time - I have a frame around one pair and they're good but the other pair don't have support and bow way out.

Thanks for the info Dave. Yes the tubs are Sterilite tubs. My dad and I have already thought we will have to add some sort of support for the tubs so they will not bow out. They have already started to give way some. Electrical strip - system is in a garage, little one is never in there. Too many things she can get into. It is just temporary, will get a more suitable option soon. GFCI - no. But a good thought. I may get a GFCI plug and have dad install it this weekend.

This is really a test run. We have the system indoors with lights and pumps on timers. Just really wanted to see for myself if this will work in Alabama, indoors.

first attempt, so thanks for all the help. I am learning how much I do not know daily.

Do you have a sunny window around; where will system #2 be located? (once hooked it's always about the next system)

There are two windows in the room. I am thinking of installing a storm door on the front of the room for added light in the afternoon. I eventually plan to have a large fish holding tank in the middle of the room with gbs all around the walls of the room. However, I have a lot of cleaning to do. The house I live in after relocating here in Alabama from New Orleans, LA used to belong to my parents. There is a three car garage that is not connected to the house. We have used this one section for the storage of our things, as my father has not yet gotten all of his things form the garages or the barn. Only disadvantage of buying from family, they have no concept of time. In one section of that building is where the system is located now. The cool thing about the system now is that one window is right by the taller gbs. In the spring I plan to have some gbs on the outside of the building. I have a cross pipe fitting instead of a T on the last gbs so the water can be pumped outside.

By the way, this room used to be a pet store I owned when I was in college, so now it is returning back to its roots... :D

Uv sterilizers are not required.

A few pics from today. I added fish. Catfish, about 6-10 inches (15 -25 cm). I have plants already coming up from the gravel bed.
