Your system is looking pretty good to me. (mainly because I haven't set mine up yet!)

I use to live in Pannawonica and if I knew about AP back then I would be doing the same as you.

I use to fish out at the crossing at old onslow and catch a few barra. You sure would have some bragging rights if you could secure a big barra for your system ! (say godbye to the smaller fish though !)

I have caught Jacks in the Robe near Panna up to 400mm, if yours grow that big.....

What are you using for feed though ?

I am feeding them maggots, by hanging a peice of road kill , or roo over the tank, and wrapping it in a bin liner, to help it sweat , in two days later and it rains maggots for a day into the tank. The jacks and the other small fish love that. And last night they ate the left over prawns from fishing, the fish food is taking ages t get here, and I dont think the fish will really get into it.

hummm sweating them is a nice idea, I always found that skins left folded too long (even with salt) bred more maggots than carcasses. I never knew why. And still don't.

Why does sweating help SO much?

Also, what's the smell like? I live in suburbia, and 1 neighbour has complained already :-( (pump noise)

ok i know its rank, but hey , gotta do what you have gotta do. Its the humidity, making the process faster. Though this town is normally in the mid 40's in summer, with massive humidity, so we are all quiet used to our bins crawling at some stage or anouther :pukeleft: And it does smell, but only for maybe 2 days, once again due to the climate here, the process is over quiet quick .

I am wondering if i should havea bio filter in the system???

Any thoughts??

Tell them to grow a backbone. Im all for being neighbourly - but some people really pi$$ me off with their whining! Bloody sooky wah wahs. As chopper would say - they should harden the F up! I bet they are more upset about the fact you have a life and interests rather than the noise itself. End of rant...

Hi Jessy, welcome.
I began my interest in AP when in Tom Price and had everything ready to begin my set up when my husband decided to resign and we had to move. Will watch with interest to see how your system goes.

Hi All. This is an update of the system. It has been a huge learning curve. Out of the fish I originally stocked the system with, nearly all the forked tailed catfish are still swimming around being king of the tank. I have a list as long as your arm for all the "what not to do's " in an APS '. Things are cruising along though, and the tank has seemed to balanced out.

Hey Jessy,
That is looking great. I love the flowers in the beds, makes them look pretty. What other plants do you have in there and what are you feeding the fish with.
