That looks fantastic BnA, reminds me of a six stand shearing shed

Cheers gnash, went and looked at it and maybe subconsciously, I went back to my childhood in Marble Bar on a sheep station.

Have been adding small amounts of urea each day. Today have finally got readings
ph 8.2
NH3 1.0
NO2 .50
NO3 >1 <5

The basil and coriander are going berserk, amazing growth. I am hoping that pH will shift down once the NO3 starts going, not going to do anything until then with regards to pH adjustment.

agree Ozzie,

Have a theory that as soon as the system kicks (cycles), pH spike down would be one of the first indicators.

Funtastic, isn't it great to see such quick germination. This is what aquaponicists call instant gratification. IMHO

Faye, everytime I go up to the shed and look, there is more growth and more plants. I am glad I started with herbs.

Yes they are free, coming from a farm dam. I want to try them as the tolerate low temps and not too fussy about water conditions (guess thats why they took over the waterway over here. Being responsible about it, taking them out of the waterways and raising them in a controlled environment cant be all bad surely

In NSW Bazz.... you're required to report all redfin catchs to DPI... as whole fish.... think it's up to $10,000 fine for posession....

Another possible concern if you're planning on stocking other fish in your system... now or later is the EHN virus...

Quote:
The Redfin numbers cycle due to regular onslaughts of Epizootic Haematopoietic Necrosis (EHN) Virus, a mysterious endemic virus that is highly lethal to juvenile Redfin

The EHN virus is transferrable to Silver Perch (lethal), MacQuarie Perch (lethal), rainbow trout, and barramundi.....

In fact...

Quote:
The EHN virus is a virus carried by the introduced Redfin Perch. Research suggests EHN virus was a dormant "native" virus without a host until Redfin Perch were introduced in the 1860s. Research has proven that it readily infects Macquarie Perch which have an almost 100% fatality rate.

Hey Bazz n Al thats a pretty good effort for a month isn't it. A rewarding career ahead for everyone in aquaponics, I think. IMHO :)
