The hippy comment was not particularly directed at you Brian. :)

However the question of what to burn has not been properly resolved. WVO while it sounds good has problems the main ones I would question are reliable supply, filtration and viscosity.
If waste oil is out of the question I would go fuel oil.
I am still of the humble opinion that the burner should not be in the RAS area. :)

I'm no expert on the fuels. And I agree that you don't want the waste oil fumes in the RAS system, but I'd imagine the systems are designed to burn hot, and burn off anything that'd make it's way out.

But if it's properly sealed (no leaking smoke, no smell of fumes, etc), I couldn't see too much problem with it inside the fish house.

Assuming the fuel storage tank is outside (I would seriously hope so) and the pipe is fed through the wall we now have the potential to dump fuel inside the fish house, I could go on and on however as you said it is not a problem. Well not for me as I wouldn't do it. :)

Nah, no problem Sleepe, made me giggle and that's always good. Colum has a point with hot and fast. On the other hand I can't imagine anywhere in Florida needs sustained heat. I was thinking more along these lines http://www.doheny.com/poolsupplies/Above-Ground-Pool-Solar-Heating-System-18101.html?adpos=1o2&creative=54920475788&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CMipxIK2zcMCFQeoaQod0xEArA
Image it is listed at $99.00 no affiliation top of a Google search

Brian,

Believe it or not we do get quite cold for about a month every year. A couple of frosts too. So depending on the fish you are trying to raise, Tilapia for instance. You will need a little extra heat.

Cold is relative to where you are Boss.lol We will see upper 20's here a few times per year. Obviously, for a species that prefers 80's, that poses a problem. I think I can use the multi oil heater, and hopefully will only need it for a few hours each night. If i can keep the building in around 80, I won't lose much growth. it heats up nicely during the day....as long as the sun is out. There will be a few days where it will need to run for longer periods of time. Eventually, I'd like to insulate it, that will make a huge difference. Starting off with Goldies, so they'll be fine. By the time I'm cycled and add tilapia, it should be Ok.

good luck with the heater. One thing I believe can work with the multi-fuel burners is fuel blending. Kerosene helps the less flammable fuels burn evenly
