Maxicrop plus Iron may have some natural chelating agents (based on a paper I read somewhere but they weren't sure). The Iron actually comes from Ferrous Sulfate. Generally we use it as if there aren't any chelating agents at all so because of the pH of your system you need to spray this on the plants, adding directly to the water won't help. Putting it in the AP water at this pH just results in the Iron becoming unavailable.

Cheers

We did not do a test on our media. I did call and find out that it is made up of marble and granite. I have heard marble can mess up your pH. What does the vinegar test do for you? I am pretty new to this myself. We did a lot of research before starting but there were obviously a few things we missed. So you can add Iron to the system? How would I get that..? Also, I have muriatic acid I just heard that if you start adding acids you will probably always have to add them. Going to do another pH test today to see if it is still dropping since it went down yesterday. I figured there was some sort of deficiency I wish my plants were green again! So I had talk to a friend who said once the pH comes back down I need to buffer my system is this true ?

What the vinegar test does for you is tell you if your grow media is buffering your pH up.

Forgot to give you the amount of Maxicrop plus Iron to use for the spray - For foliar feeding 1 Oz per gallon of water or about 30mls per 3.8 L then spray directly on plants.

Does anyone know if I left the sprouts in peat pellets too long before transferring to aquaponics system can I stunt the plants growth?? I feel like my plants should be larger they have been growing since second week of march. Oh and I think my pH is dropping and my nitrates are around 20 ppm YAY! :)

My pH has been 8ish since I began my big system. The blue metal I used is "reactive" which means that it is not pH neutral. I thought it would come down eventually but it hasn't yet.

Getting fed up I decided to test the media again and it is still lifting a vinegared solution of pH 5 up. I'm guessing by tomorrow it will have increased to 6 or even higher.

I've got ~200L failed (doesn't taste nice) cider vinegar of pH 4 that I need to dispose of so I am thinking of adding it to my system to partially neutralise the alkalinity of my 24000L of media.

After I've used this up I guess I'll go onto HCl once I can find some at a reasonable price.
