Looking pretty sweet!

I haven't heard great things about UV lights in Aquaponics. It depleates the iron, and those sorts of things. Bacteria are good for your system, I wouldn't want to be killing it off with the light, will slow down growth rates.

I'm glad you went with the sand filter too. I've read that it breaks down the solids into smaller particles that can be converted easier :)

In a large open pond like is being built, a UV clarifier is actually a good thing. Your bacteria will still colonize. Your algae will be better controlled with it. That means more stable water parameters.

I have a UV filter on to get rid of the Algae growth. I want crystal clear water.
I wasn't aware that it depleted the iron. I have a UV light on my IBC system and it seems to be doing well.

As for the sand filter I have 3 layers, first its river sand, then fine gravel and then large rocks at the bottom.

I'm currently just cycling the system so that the bacteria can grow.
I have added some water from my other IBC system to get the bacteria to grow a little faster.

How long should I cycle the system for before I start to add the fish?
