FT almost done.
Hope to place the EPDM tomorrow. What a heavy piece! It wore me out just getting it there.

I once visited, in Australia, the CSIRO aquaculture labs near Cronulla in Sydney and they had a big swimming pool that had been converted into a tank to raise snapper. To get around the idea of it being too big they laid a rope net inside the pool so that it was just off the bottom (so solids could still be removed easily), and at when they wanted to access the fish (for things like stripping) the just raised the net and grabbed the fish in the net. It was as easy as pie. I reckon I couldn't resist the temptation to just fill the pool with water and make a jumbo system ;) Is the pool's filtration still operational? Can it be re-jigged to filter your AP system?

I think I will be building a ply tank like this when I can afford to set up my home system, fiber-glassing the corners and painting it with epoxy paint etc. A nice deep insulated tank like yours will hold it's temperature well during the winter for you too.

If the timbers have been treated make sure that the timber get a coat of a fish safe paint..

Don't want to kill fish due to leaching of chemicals into the water..

Then I placed the EPDM inside the FT. It took all the energy out of me. It is not prety, but it is functional.

Yesterday, a dumper delivered 10 cubic yards of river rock.

So, slowly we are moving along!

Just got back from Lowes. I was trying to find something to get my syphon system build.
Could not find anything.
The thickness of bottom of the grew bed is 1.5 inches, so I got to find something that can go through 1.5 inches and get nice and tight. The hole in the middle for water to go through, I like it to be about 3/4 inches, or maybe 1 inch.
Any type of recommendation is welcomed.

Hey

the bottom of my GB's are two layers of 1/2" plywood... so a uniseal will not work.....

what I did was to get a piece of 1/4" rigid plastic and cut the hole in the ply just a little bigger then needed to clear the uniseal....

then cut the correct size hole in the plastic and screwed it into the plywood, then put down the liner and installed the uniseal.....

been in the beds for over 2 years now and still no leak...

there is a section in my build thread showing this done... starts on page 44

HTH's

Thanks JT, I will check it out.

My grew beds are 4 X 8, and will be filled wiht about 18 inches of river rocks. My question is, what size pipe should I use for the syphon? I assume the hole though should be at least 3/4 inch for water to pass through. I believe about 170 gallons of water needs to get through, if the volume of water is about 40 percent or so.

Also, I was thinking of just cutting a 1.25 inch hole through, and use JB Bond to fasten a pvc pipe through it. I have used HB bond many places and it has never failed me. Then I can cover it with bees was or silicone.

Thanks Ryan. I have a long way to go, but I keep at it till it happen.

Why your pictures look so good. Any time I try to load a picture with a decent resolution as good as your pictures, it does not go through, the message says that my resolution is too high. So, I have to resize them till they get through, and when they get through, the resolution is really crappy!

You must have a special privileges.

My growbed is only one layer of plywood and a uniseal worked great. I would recomend 1 inch for the syphon. works fine for me
