Unfortunately using canoes to access out of the way Marron spots is illegal. The fisheries web site says you cant use boats to catch marron either dropping nets off the boat or just to transport nets. Looks like you will have to stick to bush bashing or take the easy way out and snare them in the Irrigation Dams. I'v been a few times this season and caught plenty.

You can still use the boats to get to sites. I never use nets because you never get them back in the snags. Snares and scoops are all good. Though the fisheries don;t see it that way...

Yeah BF. Sounds good. I haven't been in ages. I have a new rod a reel I am dying to try out.

here's a pic of the shrimp.

she is about as long as a 5 cent piece. lots of meat on these. just a matter of : quarantining them. hopefully i can get them to breed.

does anyone know a good waterplant to go in the middle of the tank, to provide shelter for breeding? i'm looking for something that can be grown in a pot, that also likes a good amount of current, and can grow in little light. any idea's?

thanks

here's some:
DON'T use Cabomba (fanwort)
Ceratophyllum (hornwort) is good, a food source too
Eriocaulon is good, found in WA
Maidenia ditto
Myriophyllum (watermilfoil)
Utricularia (yellow bladderwort)

These are all submerged & emergent plants with feathery leaves

If you want to buy some BF, Totally tanked in Maddington sells them for 20 for $3.50.. I bought some on Friday. Keep the water COLD... otherwise they will cook. Below 18 degrees is a must. I just have a small pump, a fine sponge filter, and few upturned broken pots for them to lay their eggs in (some were bought with eggs).

BF: I wouldn't imaging they have been quarantined... they are sold as feeder shrimp. However if they are bred up in a separate container then they will not last long enough in the main one to cause a problem (as food). Plus shrimp I have heard are pretty resilient to disease because they are of course detritus feeders and eat all kinds of crap... literally. They are called glass-shrimp or one of many variants. I would assume they are similar species.

Since Friday I have had about four deaths out of about 35-40. I have been keeping an eye on the temp, the container is in the shade with a cover and the temp was 23 degrees at night. I have packed some foam around it so hopefully that will insulate it a bit. I am hoping to keep it at 18-20 deg.
