Thanks Amo :wave1: ,

it's been fun so far :D

I did some testing of our irrigation water today. I'm using this water in my system, here are the results.

No need to pee in this water, cows, fish or whatever have done the job already :laughing3: I've been running the pump now for a few days and these are the readings today.

Hi everyone,

I tried to start some seeds in the sump beds using seeds wrapped in cotton wool. The idea was to keep the seeds moist between cycles and stop them moving to deep into the gravel media.

The sump beds have 50mm of dry gravel on top of the constant water level. Each hour at night the beds flood to 5mm below the surface watering the seeds. During the day its each 3 hours to help keep water temps down.

The seeds did not have enough go in them to push through the cotton so I've only had 50% success rate :support: .

Back to direct sowing in the gravel.

God bless, froggo

Hi everyone,

not much happening here at the moment. New system has stalled due to on farm workload.

The completed section is running well without fish and I hope to get back to building grow beds during winter and installing more fish tanks.

God bless everyone and have a safe happy christmas/new year,

froggo.

Hi everyone,

picked up some new silver perch today for the fingerlings tank. [img]

and to go in the two 500ltr sump tanks a few catfish to help keep thing stirred up. [img]

Water temps are still at 20 degrees ever thought it's been hot, 36 C today. The buried tanks and fish shed seem to be helping keep temps stable and within range for the trout system.

The SP's are temporarily in the trout fingerling tank until I build stage 2 for the natives which I want to be warmer at about 25 C

God bless, froggo.

some fish started to die today no idea why. Fish just started to hang around the top of their tank, no startle reflex, looked like they were gasping but there was heaps of oxygen. Gills nice and red, no visable disease/fungus, 25 dead today so far. Did a 10% water change and running pump fulltime see how they go overnight.

God bless, froggo.

Thanks Bcasey2703 and Porter.

Overnight I lost another 13 but the survivors were all back to normal and seemed hungry. Got me stumped as to why this happened, only thing that was touched on system was a water top up the day before. The irrigation water may be the culprit? I did the 10% water change (700ltrs) with rain water and all good again now.
