Other things to avoid;

planting two passion fruit vines one night before the biggest frost. (a couple of months ago)

Planting established tomatoe seedlings the night before the biggest gale (last night)

Not removing stray clay balls from the sump that seem to be the perfect size to block the sump pumps intakes (last night)

Eating lunch at a cafe that handles the food and the money with the same gloved hands........waking up at 4am to be violently sick, then again at 7am, then being in a quasi consious state for the rest of the day before getting up at 4:30pm to find the effort of walking to the kitchen is just too much. (this morning) :(

Did i miss anything?

Oh no! Sounds like me last weekend... totally yucky place to eat, one of those places you debate about calling the health inspectors on. We all woke up with 'Bali-belly'.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

well, 36hrs later and I'M feeling somewhat back to normal.

Two lots of 50% water changes seem to have taken the toll on the fish. can only think that it was the chlorine as the tank and mains water were about the same. would have much preffered to SPRAY the water in, over a much longer period, but between being sick and the fact that water is so much LOUDER at night (think vigilante water restriction spys).......................

anyway, found 4 trout at the bottom this morning, they were the larger ones too :(

Once worked with a guy that put on a set of gloves in the morning and never took them off until close. Not once in 14 hrs. He didn't last long, but he must be working somewhere now. :D

well now, this was interesting......................

since the set up of my new system i've had approx 35 trout in the 3000L tank with the pump turning off at 8pm and back on at 8am (partly for the noise, partly for the power) I have NOT had supplemental air in the tank as i figured that the number of fish for the water volume was quite low.

as mentioned three trout were found dead yesterday morning, assumed it was all the rooting around with the loosing water. Was at a mates place on the other side of town last night and realised how warm it was when we were sitting outside at midnight. went and checked and it was 20.0C. got back at 3:30am and found all the trout gulping for air. turned the pumps back on 15on/45off and they were fine within 5 mins. measured that water temp at midday today ad found it at 18C

WOW

having the 1000L IBC buried must have mad a HUGE difference to the summer temps!
I originally buried the IBC to gain heat during winter, but as i had trout WELL into the 30C ambients last year i'm tipping it made more of a difference in keeping the tank cool.

Granted the 3000L tank was only half full with at least 4 times the growbed space as the IBC system but still....................

Have put the pumps on 15/45/24h for the moment and will put airpump and temp monitor inas well.

Might be that i'll move the trout into the old IBC system for the rest of the season soon...........

F&F, can you tell me what your system temp was late last night or this morning?

Hi steve i checked last night temp 16 ph 6.6 and ec 2.1.Went to gardenworld in springvale today and had a good conversation with jim far and he said anything over 1.5 ec was detramental to fish health,i was just wondering if this has been a problem with my silvers when there has been a reading of up to 3 ec,[just a thought] gee his jades look good.
Sorry to but in .
Jim,
