If you do harvest in one hit - use vacuum sealer and freezer :)

I am going to start picking out a large one every week or so to cook up soon, and will vacume seal and freeze as many as I can fit in my drinks fridge freezer before i pick up my SP, just hoping to run a few in my sump tank later into the season due to the huge amount of airation in it. If all else fails i can always have people over for diner as there is no shortage of people chasing some.

foolish me to openly say my fish where doing well, trout have been off there feed for a few days now and are starting to float towards the top and the water inlets, tested everything every arvo for the last three days and the only thing out of the norm is the temp 19C at 4pm, amm 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 120ppm, PH around 7, salt 2ppt, for all i can tell its a DO problem, installed a pond pump with fountain attachments on it this morning to see if i can sort this out, also actually measured the amount of water being sprayed into the tank at 950lph, tank is about 900l capacity with 30 trout, is that to low? (pump has lost performance since i installed it), might get some more hose and plumb the extra pump from the sump to the trout tank.

sorry about the rambling

Can also move some of the fish to the other tank to decrease the DO load on that one, will just have to sort out a lid.

Thanks Brad. Let us know if the additional oxygen helps the fish. It might be time for a pump service? Just speculating.

Regards, Martin.

Second pump seems to be pumping more water than the first which is unusual seeing as they are the same pump and the second one is older, did check the pump and there dose not seem to be anything wrong with it, there may be a partial blockage in the line though, will leave it with two pumps for now and strip the line on the weekend. the trout where looking healthier a couple of hours after i added the second pump still held off feeding though, will throw in some food in the morning and see how they take to it.

Well the fish are still looking sad, I even went and got the largest air pump i could get localy and added that, still not much change, so last night I dumped about 1500L of water and topped up with tap water to see if maybe my nitrates are higher than i thought, will give the system another good once over this arvo and see if anything stands out, it may also just take them a bit to bounce back.

Hey Brad I'm not far from you if you're in Hillman. Did you want me to come and loan you my test kit over the weekend in case yours is cactus?

Its all good the test kit i have is working right i checked everything against other tests when i got it after the ammonia problem the other week, i think the system (plants) just couldnt react to the increase in nutrients when i realized the amonia test was cactus and upped the feed to the trout.

Could it be the range of the temperature affecting your fish ? Constant 19c shouldn't worry trout but if its cold at night, then warms up could be a problem ?

will check the water in the morning, i think the fluctuations where under 2 degrees, as there is shade over the majority of the system.

Good news this morning the trout are back to behaving normally and eating well will keep a close eye on them and watch the nitrate readings as i increase there feed (for now they will get 1/4 of what they where polishing off).
