Fed the fish some worms and corn noblets - they loved them.

24hrs of Shell grit and a slight water change and the PH has come up to 6.4

Well today I went to Torcz house in collingwood victoria and he kindly gave me a bag of feed to get me through the week until our shared shipment arrives.

I fed them today and they were slow to start but after about 3 mins they were making a splash everywhere.

I found a really cool way to see what solids you get without building a filter. I used 90 mm pipe caps with sieve material, reduces the flow evenly and also shows what solids you get.

I've noticed that the worms I've fed the trout come out with just their white skin. I can see left over pellets from the fish farm. There is also some wierd gooey stuff and bits of eucalyptus which is weird.

They have not been fed pellets since last weekend.

Put some more shell grit in after a faint yellow reading on the ph (6.0).

The fish are feeding well.
How much feed should I give them per day?
30 yearlings.
I have 3mm pellets and I'm giving them roughly a handful.

Yeah cool thanks Charlie. I've been two finger/thumb plucking the feed from the bag and chucking that in - about 5-10 spurts, in small amounts so I can watch them and not over feed. They do slow down, but I wasn't sure if they were still feeding underneath. I'm judging it from the amount of splash'n'flash that I'm getting.

Just trying to be careful as I'm busy atm and can't keep an eye on water testing etc.
I've got a pretty green thumb for plants, but haven't tested my fish fingers.

Today I fed them heaps. I'm amazed that they are so hungry. I tried to feed them till they stopped but I think they were slowing down a fair bit.
Going to try and feed them when I get home also.

It floats for about 10-40 seconds then sinks with all the splashing.

Ph - 6.0
ammonia and nitrite - negligible.
didn't bother with nitrates.

I've added shell grit to both inlets.

I'm now feeding them 5mm pellets.

Added some seasol and iron today.

I bought yearlings so the guy said they were ready for 5mm.
They are smashing it - can't keep it up to them.
I went halves with Torcz from collingwood and we paid a good price (60$ for 20kg bag including freight)

I've got a question - my fish tank has the two side halfs still on its top - the fish seem to fly up and donk them selves on the roof. Should I remove these when I put the proper lid on which will be only slightly higher?

Had a scare this morning.
The power company replaced the power to house line. took 45m-1hr.
I used my BELKIN battery backup powerboard which kept the air pump running for about 20mins.

Must get a backup system happening asap.

Btw how long would 30 trout yearlings last in 800litres with no air.

I get the same thing in my 4500l tank, every now and then one hits the roof, which is in the range of about 15-30cm above the water, depening on which bit of roof they are under and whether the tide is in or out. I hope they learn from their experiences and try not to do it again. I've seen a few attempt short flights, but none have departed from their watery world so far, via the ~half meter inspection hole on one side, which is generally open during the daytime.
