But... I've only just started doing stuff after Christmas, so if I sit down with a cider now, it'll be Easter before I get all the growbeds plumbed up!

it would be interesting for some one to take a meter reading before and after an dirt garden watering session.

I watered the pumpkins for 30 minutes with the hose full on. That used 115L.

 that must be some hose

Townsville City Council constantly tells us that "no-one wants User Pays water supply" (they say it a lot, maybe they're paranoid about it? :?) We are allocated 776KL per year at a cost of $447.72 = $0.577 / KL. Pretty bloody cheap if you ask me. We are also charged $1.65 / KL for excess water.

Back to the garden hose and the timer... At the rate our water flowed, you can use a kilolitre of water in 4 hours, and then after 24 hours, you've clocked up a $10 excess water bill. I'll take the tap-timer for some stress relief!

A few years ago we got carried away with watering, and had a $120 excess water bill (5 weeks allocation) NEVER AGAIN!

All our water is pumped from perth(onya mr o`conner see you didn`t have to kill yourself)and in the next couple of years it will be coming from the de-sal plant in esperance and pumped here so who knows what the price will rise to?

gnash, western water has a legislated guarantee that Goldfields water will be priced the same as Perth water. (Whether this is a) sensible, b) sustainable, is open to debate :) The Merredin desal plant ran into two problems: the pipeline wouldn't take the water (presumably for much the same reasons as Toowoomba) and b) desal water couldn't compete with the artificially low water price. Hence my work on alternative uses for salty ground water.

KCGM is using alot of bore water here for the gold plant.its up to 7 times salt of ocean. The amount of work thats done on the bore fields to contain the water in case of a blow out is enormous so if you came up with a good solution or good uses for the salt water, you could become wealthy very quickley

If you are that way inclined - but I have never had any pollination problems. From all accounts night insects take care of this.

Had a funny thing happen today. A lady from the office is leaving Kal and her daughter had two goldies they couldn`t take, so she gave them to me on the condition they went with all the others and i gave the daughter (5 1/2 yo) some pics of the tub/tank to show they would be alright. Got home this arvo and there is a skeleton on the bottom of tub and a very FAT bream :D
Haven`t got the heart to tell so if anyone asks bubbles is fine

Oh and a couple of pics, First pak choy and flowers on tommie, spinach is also starting to get going.
