I'm gonna need a bigger sump.

I've got the updated system piped in. Just need to get beds with the correct amount of water going through the different beds, but I was running out of light.

These are my two fruit beds. So one will have a dwarf blood orange, the other a banana.

And these will be my DWC beds.

The problem now, when all beds drain at once, it overflows the tank, the sump overflows. And when they are all about to drain, it looks like it's about to run dry. I need a bigger sump.

And I've got to pipe in the air for the DWC. I've been tempted to try something different. Instead of the air stones, I was going to put the 15mm PVC in the water, drill little holes, and put it directly in the water. Let it bubble through that. Might spread the air over a larger area. Well so the theory goes.

And I got a little video happy. Does anybody know how to embed videos? It just showed the tags when I posted it. ()

This one is the flow of water through my system.

And a walk around of my system, in all it's messy glory.

Yea, hit the youtube button and paste the link between the brackets then remove the first part of the link leaving just the identifier which usually comes after the =

In your case leave only ]nsl3l-yhLfg[ between the brackets.

Well, another week, and I still didn't get as far as I want.

All I've really got to do now is set up the air system. Which shouldn't take too long. Then clean up the plastic, and paint.

Foamy goodness:
Image

And I found a nice little hole burner. I was using a cut open spray can, but it didn't hold it's heat. So I found that an old shock absorber was the perfect size, and could hold it's heat quite well.

So many holes.

And I made one a nursery bed, so I can start seeds in one of them, and move them into the larger gaps for them to grow out.

Image

And I got the banana & blood orange in their place.

I counted up the amount of DWC holes I have now. 530 holes. Should be plenty of room to grow!

Great system Colum. I am really keen on your fruit tree beds. I don't understand why they have a 'down pipe' - or are these wicking beds?

Nice work Col, those holy beds are really impressive. :D

Jude what you're seeing is a media guard, a tall pipe that is stopping the grow media from entering the smaller bell siphon inside.

Thanks guys. I tried it with the hole saw, and crap went everywhere. Far neater this way.

And I can't claim credit for the idea, I saw it somewhere else on the forum.

Edit..
I think it was EB's commercial show system.

I was trying a bit of an experiment, I was trying to see if I could just use the PVC pipes to aerate the DWC, so I could spread it out evenly over the bed (I knocked some holes in the PVC, and spread them out). I don't think I've got enough air pressure. It works down to about 5-7cm, but anything lower it doesn't push any bubbles out.

Might need to go the air stone method.

And cause I like the yellow cherries:

And I like videos. I tried putting a cool video behind it, but Mumford & Sons didn't like me using their video on youtube.
