Quite right! They also ingest dirt, biscuits off the floor, worms and anything else they pick up, some of it not quite what we want them to eat! But milk IS good, although feeding times can be erratic! And don't get me on to sleep patterns. We're all experts aren't we!!! (Particularly grandads! )

Hi Kris, if you "wrote" that piece with a David Attenborough voice then you got it spot on. :D

Ahh yes...the 2AM feeding...how I miss those...NOT! lol My wife breast fed the first 2, so I had an easy out. Then someone told her to pump and let me share in the feeding duties. I still despise that person- many years later.

I did take a bath/shower Tuesday but it was rough since I was having contractions all day.
The worst part was really that I'd already been unable to get any rest for about 24 hours + before the "medical" establishment figures "active labor" is started and they don't want you there before active labor starts but it seems with many women, it is actually difficult to "let" active labor start before you are actually settled into the place where the event will happen.

Anyway, it was a long Labor. And this bub turned out to be bigger than we all expected, weighed in at 8lb 14.5oz
That is a pound bigger than the OB expected.
And on his way out he spun the opposite way than the OB expected while trying to get his shoulder out and I now have some relatively extensive repairs to go along with a really big beautiful Boy.

The Cook has been trained right. I get up to breast feed and he gets up to help me out. We are having to supplement with a cheater feeder this week so I need help getting him latched on while also getting the little tube in place.

Not sure what a cheater feeder is but glad to hear you are breast feeding, kids today eat so much synthetic food the least we can do is start them off on 100% natural. When they are so small the small things make a big difference IMO.

Well he is such a big boy and my milk wasn't especially fast coming in so he lost too much weight so we are having to supplement with some formula till we get him back up to weight. Next pediatrician's appointment is tomorrow.

The cheater feeder is really just a tube that allows for adding some supplemental formula as the baby nurses. Kinda tricky to get everything set up right. Requires like 4-6 hands to deal with positioning the baby as well as the little tube and holding the container of formula all at the same time.

While I would encourage you to breast feed it just doesn't work for some babies or mothers. We had massive problems with our eldest and Sarah put her self through hell doing more than her healthy best with him. You have to put your self first so that you can give your baby your best.

The other three, no problems.

Oh yes don't get me wrong formula has its place but unfortunately some people are now choosing to bottle feed just because it is more convenient such as my sister who chose to bottle feed because she thinks it is unfair that the mother be the only parent doing the early morning feeds and that it also interfered with her morning PT classes 2 days a week and her basket ball game once a week, she extracted the first bit of milk then went onto formula. To boot she was back at full time work at 3 months (choice not need). I know call me an old fuddy duddy. I know anther that just stated that breast feeding seemed a waste of time when you can just bottle feed. This seems to be a common trend among young mums of today. And don't get me started on the caesar epidemic lol.

Life is unfair. The sooner people realise that the better. #firstworldproblem

LOL i quote those 3 words almost daily to my 4 children, unfortunately schools, sporting facilities and society in general are ramming our kids with fairness, and for fun not to win and there are no losers but all this does is create spineless kids who get a huge reality check when they venture out into the real world and can unfortunately lead to depression and ultimately suicide.
Well rant over we seem to have gone way off topic here, Sorry TCLynx.

Farming, kids, family, being healthy and wholesome...... All related I think.
My going nuts and buying a farm I think was just my first step to really being ready to start a family.
I'm also old enough to be willing to change my lifestyle considerably in order to have that family. Many people with their "daily lives" that just isn't an option.

I certainly hope to be able to breast feed 100% for at least a period of time, there are benefits not only for the baby but for me as well and in many ways it is easier than formula (or at least cheaper.)
Next appointment is tomorrow and we will see how we are doing.

Absolutly on all fronts, to start a family it to put your self/your needs second to your children, my wife didn't drink alcohol from the day she found out she was pregnant for the first time other than a small glass of Moet to celebrate until she was well past breast feeding our 4th child, that was about a 6-7 year dry spell (personal choice though, would expect everyone to be that committed) yet some claim to be unable to put good food on the table for their kids or unable to feed them breakfast yet can afford cigarets and alcohol or latest big name brand clothes etc. Its frustrating and even more so when it is families on benefits spending welfare money meant for the kids on their own selfish needs. But thats yet another whole subject again. Gee I'm on a roll today, hope i haven't offended anyone, i can be a little to open opinionated sometimes.

My daughter...youngest of our three complains to this day that we didn't breast feed her. Seems her IQ is not quite as high as her two brothers who both tested in the 99%. She, as a junior in college, just made the Academic Athlete Dean's List, but says she "has to work much harder then her brothers." lol Point being made, the breast milk will make the little tyke smarter...just ask my daughter.
