Monya, pump sits on what would be ur seat if u were sitting in the spa. Each week i fire up the spa pump for an hour and brush the walls and floor with a solid bristled brush to disturb all the poo. After an hour the fish are ravenous and the water is clear. Not strictly perfect, but my first system and that's how things work.

System 2 will be standpipe/drainpipe per the book, with enough flow to get stuff movin towards the middle, b4 being pumped to gbs.

yeah, already got a bit of buyer's remorse on the 6000lt aqualined gal fishtank, but $650! In a perfect world i would have 3by 2000lt ones but hey, cheap!
According to Willow's article in 2005, I should be able to keep about 8 million Murray's in that size tank, provided i can annex Tassie to remove the nutes. Sorry for the hijack LB.

If "ich" is stress related and Goldies are as "tuff as nuts" then something must be going on ... yes/no?

the nitrate is the problem, it is from stress related to the nitrates. Goldfish are tough but they do get affected by high nitrate levels.
