As far as flood-drain vs flood-flood, I've found that sage grew well in the first and died in the second from root rot. This may be due to the fact that the system started as flood/drain and became the other inadvertently for a week: if the plant grew in a constant flood situation it might not send roots into areas where they would die.

Hi Fodder,
Seems not to have an issue with pests or no more than normal

The new moon ( O oh here we go again) is a great time to plant seeds.
Have you a moon phases chart?
If not find someone who has  or buy one.

There is a link here to gardengate somewhere

hydrophilia - I figure that is why all seems to be good seeds are sown direct.

Hi Everyone.

thanks for those links, i have read the one about the moon phases before and i will give that agowhen i start to plant form seed.
I have just got back from Karratha with a few punnets of seedlings. Some capsicans, roma tomatos & salid greens.

While there i dropped into the local pet shop to price some gold fish untill i could get some barra. wait for it, bet you cant guess? $6 each and they are the size of your thumb nail. Wow, i love living in the Pilbara!!!

So after that shock i went home and added 600ml of Humonia to teh AP system and i will test the system tomorrow.

Well i have started, again.......

I know what you mean about goldfish and the price.
When people say I'll start with cheap goldfish rather than trout. I tend to think what the?
We can buy trout easily less than $2- and don't expect to lose any. I really hate it when I hear people expect to lose fish, I don't. Just feed minimally is the secret. Good luck Fodder.

Fodder yep seedling... they are in a soil based potting mix right?
Be sure to wash as much stuff of the roots as poss'
This will reduce the likely hood of soil based contamination.(bucket of water and rinse then tip the water on your soil garden)
and root rot from root bound seedlings
Seedling are a good way to start but from what I have seen seeds catch up to seedling if planted at the right time :flower:

Hi

Faye, thanks. I am not sure what i am going to do just yet, but i guess i could keep it going with humonia for the next couple of months untill the broom spawn is ready. There is another fish farm up here but i am not sure what the farm or if i can get anything off them, but i will check that out tomorrow.

Creative. Dammm i wish i had checked fist as i planted them with there soil, thinking they will have a better chance.

ohhh well too late now the thing would have flooded serveral times and the soild is probably mostly washed away.

i will test tomorrow morning and post the levels. I hope 6ooml of humonia will be emought for the moment.

Faye, send them over to Gosnells Aquarium along Albany Hwy... $12 for 10 bronze comets...

Fodder, too bad you are too far from Gosnells... I am not too familar with Karratha year round temperature... when Perth is having winter, what temperature is Karratha having?? Barra needs warm water to survive and grow... I think minimum temperature is 20degC... If Karratha also experience cool weather below 20degC during winter, then the barra you must get should be big size barra so that you can harvest something before the weather cools down again in Apr/May??

Not many months left... unless you are prepared to insulate and heat your water during the cooler months...

There is another issue to leaving seedlings with the soil they came with: plants I planted with soil died of root rot, probably because soil does not drain well in the short time between cycles. You might pull one, wash it, and put it back just for comparison purposes...

Yep hydro,
fodder I'd be removing them and washing the roots off.
.. a bit of work but worth while for sure...
it also tends to separate the roots so they have a good start,
Root rot is a mongrel in anyones words  and it does happen

Hi Guys,

It looks like i have wasted $35 worth of seedlings..... As i have been having problems with the AP system i didnt pay much attention to the possition of the sun. It seems that even morning sun is too hot for seedlings up here. looks like i have lost at least half.

I have to move the sail shade around when the sun goes down ( it 44c here at teh moment)

well i have done the first tests
