Temps are keeping the cycling slow Bree... how much are you feeding??

And what's your pH?

same feed regime, 1.5 heaped spoonfulls in the morning one at night

PH is 7.4

Not worried about cycle speed i know it will eventually happen for me, just want to look after the fish

Your readings haven't changed in a week... try 1.5 spoons per feed for a day or two... and see what readings you get.. the extra half spoon shouldn't alter things...

If your readings stay the same... hten up the feed to two spoons each feed... and re-test... if the ammonia climgs sharply and doesn't drop back the next day... skip a days feeding and go back to 1.5 for a few days..

"Don't feed for a day" would be my advice.

Typically, when one increases feed and something bad happens, first guess as to the cause is the extra food, so one would reduce that so things can balance again. Of course, it could be that the algae & murk buildup is due to other factors that simply are coincidental with the extra food, so shade might be good...or increased filtering....or more oxygenation....but most likely it is the extra food.

Bree, don't panic, this is the peagreen soup stage
I would cover a part of your FT to reduce sunlight.
If the numbers are all good then don't worry

When you do your water tests, it is really important to have clean vials
and lids. and that the water level is perfect for a sample. :flower:

Reduce feed a bit, make sure there is plenty of aeration (especially overnight as algae can use up all the oxygen overnight), and shade tank too see if it clears up. I notice that reduced dissolved oxygen will cause my catfish to go off their feed pretty quickly.

Also DON'T stress if you get some PH fluctuations ,, this happens with the algae growing then dieing.
