This certainly isnt the PERFECT AP ideal, but it will be interesting. Can't wait to pull all those monster tomatoe plants out and ' Do it properly '. Steel star pickets next time , sunk into the ground, and bolted together, see if the tomatoe plants can take that down. They broke the fencing wire this time around , next time in with the heavy artillery  GOOD LUCK

I use a steel frame above the plants and have wire or string hanging down. Tie the tomatoes to it as they grow. Then get the step ladder when I run out of height.

Yep tie them... remove leaves below the fruit trusses ... and over time lower the stems as the plant grows...

Thread concerning it somewhere (got to duck out) that Les can probably point you to...

Or explain... see Les's thread to see examples of how its done Jessy...

Basically.. like this...

This is what my toms look like Jess

viewtopic.php?p=122898#p122898

I just denude any branches off the stem up to the highest tomatoes and as the stem grows, just move the tie string along and lay the stem on the side of the GBs...those cherry toms are still producing but starting to get to the end of their productive life now

I have now planted some grosse lisse

Fruited ( ) all over winter, put them in July last year I think

I got lazy and laid them along the edge of the GB, could have easily put them on the ground (bloody would have trod on them tho) or tied them loosely over the side of the GBs out of the way.

I wasn't prepared for them lasting so long so just kept going with the flow - I was able to plant stuff in between the stems, so didn't lose too much bed space :D

When your cherry toms or regular plants are ending there run, just push the stem under the gravel. When it roots just cut it free and you have a new plant to start all over again. I take cuttings as I go and put them in jiffy pellets. When the main plant gets messy I just plant the new one. My current cherry tom plant is 4 to 5 mtrs and is third generation of the original plant.
