he broke the link at tu.be but Gordons URL link underneath is fine.

If you paste FUzlkcfcQWw into the youtube search it finds it OK (Dave B - trout at 6 weeks in my Aquaponics).

Guess I shouldn't have deleted my post Darren - I fixed the original broken link and posted it, I even tried my fix and that's what I was referring to - for some reason my repair of link didn't work even though it had earlier :dontknow:. Anyway, Gordon got it so all's well.

And the trout are growing quickly. The 15 I put in a few weeks ago are catching up with first 10. The longest has got be getting close to 300mm long. soon plate size.

They are getting keen now around feeding time hitting the surface even before I put food in when I lift the lid. Creatures of habit I guess.

I fixed up one of the auto siphons that wasn't working properly. Found the issue was that someone with big feet had stepped on the grow bed and the point under the siphon point wasn't supported and this had caused it to drop about 40mm which meant that it had a reverse fall to the sump and wasn't cutting off no matter what the flow rate was. Fixed it with the car jack and a piece of timber and then screwed the timber support under the IBC lid where the syphon was fitted. Now its working correctly.

I had taken out the bell so it was working as constant flood until I figured out what the issue was. Now it works like a beauty. Very happy with how its all going

The only thing I have noticed is that there is an odour around the fish tank. Smells a bit like ammonia, but the water tests alright with never anymore than 0.25ppm ammonia.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Well its all come to fruition.

Plenty of veggies and now I am eating trout. Not bad effort from May to August just on 3 months.

Had the family over last night and I grabbed two from the fish tank along with some others I had in the freezer that I had bought.

These were not the biggest but together they weighed 614 grams out of the tank and 504 grams cleaned, so about 250 grams each cleaned. Certainly plate size and very tasty.

Now I am going to have to dig out my my fish smoker for some more appetizing morsels. YUMMY

Well after all the Christmas and new year celebrations and now back at work.

Had a minor disaster in early December. We had a couple of day where the temps really ramped up. The water temp got up quite a bit and i called my wife on one particularly hot day to get her to check all the trout and if any were floating, gulping at the surface or in distress to remove them.

But all was OK when I got home. The water temp was about 27 degrees and I had ample aeration going in and my back up pump was working as well to pump more air in via the spray bar. They didn't look too distressed and were hanging around the bottom of the tank and not at the surface gulping for air. I thought we were OK and the next day was predicted to be cooler.

Alas it wasn't to be and when I checked the next morning they were in distress with a couple already gone. So it was netting them all out and and dispensing with the ones alive and into the kitchen for a mass cleaning exercise. 9 trout later and in the fridge. I ended up smoking two with hickory chips which tasted wonderful. The rest were frozen.

As this was my first season with trout I wasn't really expecting them to get through summer, although I definitely think the foam insulation helped me get as far as I did. The largest trout I grew weighed 666 grams. He was a greedy bugger and three together weighed 1.66kg.

I have had some silver perch fingerlings in the sump tank for the previous 6 weeks so I transferred these to the main tank.

These little guys at about 50-60mm long when I first got them are now actively feeding and growing with the longest now at about 110mm. My nitrate levels have dropped dramatically since the trout removal so I am sustaining the crops with Seasol and worm tea at the moment. Worm farm is going great.

I videoed the Silver perch earlier this week and its here if you want a look.

Looks like you got a few nice sized trout Dave, well done :) I'm surprised they seemed ok at 27C though, how accurate is your thermometer?

Thanks Gordon. I suspect it is a few degrees out. It may be reading more than it should. It's a pool thermometer.
