Ha I will have no problem eating them as I am a born fisherman. Should have seen the look on my sister's face the first time I mentioned that I will be eating fish that I grow. I believe I will be the only person in the house eating them also.

Ok so this is the second time I have done a major water change on my system and my Ammonia level is still at like 4ppm. I mean am I missing something here. A 1/3 of my water taken out with I would assume to have a third of the ammonia, and a third put back in without ammonia I would assume that my ammonia level would drop. WTH is going on here that I am missing....

Sometimes water changes stalls the cycling process. Patience and a pinch of salt are your friends.

Oh I am cycling fine my nitrate and nitrates are still going I just assumed that adding water with out ammonia would dilute the ammonia. I thought salt just helps the nitrites?

I have 20 fish in 80 gallons of water and it seems my ammonia does not go up my nitrates are 0 and my nitrites are 0. Understand the waiting game..

I think there is confusion here I did a fish less cycle. I added the ammonia. I brought it up to 8ppm I started to cycle it dropped the 6 ppm. It has continued to drop from there. But what I don't understand is if I have 900gals and I am at 4ppm and I change out 300 gals shouldn't my ammonia level dropped some?

Yes

I suppose it could go up if things were de-nitrifying (going backwards with anaerobic conditions).

Salt doesn't affect nitrite levels it just helps the fish cope with them better (helps their gills ).

Yeah I haven't put fish in yet... Well there is one fish from my fish genocide... Read the fish help post I had to understand that one but anyway there is one little guy and he seems to be doing just fine in the water but I do not want to put the other guys in till the ammonia is a little lower ( honestly what is an ok level to put them in at?) DD my system is still cycling and the nitrites are off the charts and nitrates go up 5 ppm a day but what I don't get is if you pull a third of the system water out and put in a third new water in test before and after how can their be no change in ammonia?

What did you use for your ammonia? If it is humonia, it could still be converting. If you don't have fish, don't do water changes. The junk they put in our water to male it "clean" kill your bacteria colonies.

Nope straight ammonia well the water changes weren't wanted I had to empty GB2 to fix my leak :shifty: but what confuses me is the after dumping 300 gals twice that the ammonia level didn't budge. I mean I am fine with everything. I am just baffled :dontknow:

Sometimes, our quest to "get it" is unfruitful. Perhaps it is best to give your system some time to work itself out.
