Hey dbird, I see moringa plants frequently now at the markets around Perth.

I think I am winning the battle with Slugs

I set my beds up by lowering my gravel and shortening my siphon standpipe so I can put a short extension on my standpipe and completely flood my gravel without the water overflowing onto the ground

Each time I do a replant I do a 24hr deep flood all the slugs have to come up I make little hills of gravel for them to climb on then they visit the chickens

Ive done 3 beds in the last 4 weeks and NO NO NO Slugs ive had times in the past where ive caught a 100 a bed doing this

So I recon ive broken the breed cycle and cleaned them up

Also we have been in drought for a long time so there is no way slugs can travel around the garden

Put some celery in they are growing really fast

Some Leafy Lettuce

Pea Seed on the Trellis mesh

Some Cauliflower and Broccoli ( I was never going for caulis again) but I broke down

I have a huge nasty hot chilli Ting that Mrs Terra is growing for her Boss taking up most of a growbed

I shoved a cutting off my Currant grape vine in the corner of a bed at the end of winter it has canes on it 3 metres long

Ive also put Fig cuttings in and they are going great

So far Mrs Terra has kept her Rose cuttings out they go nuts

Sounding great Terra. I need to work out a way to control my slugs, with the expanded clay I can't just flood the bed as the bloody things float. Hopefully the frogs I've put into the system will do their job.

With whats going on in the world I thought I better get growing and fast.

Over the last couple of weeks ive actually made an effort to get my system performing its going great

Ive been a bit slack with my plants and management

Aquaponic systems are really amazing I bunged some leafy lettuce in after one week and its easy doubled in size

This weekend I think I will hang another 4 growbeds on the end of my system they are just sitting empty on a semi dismantled system

Might just run them DWC on a separate small pump from my sump perhaps half them on Constant flood

With all the stupid panic around and the prices of some veg the more I can grow the better

A couple of big ground garden beds for peas , carrots , potatoes and leeks

We eat a lot of baby leaf spinach I havnt been able to grow this in AP ive had a few goes at it

Frustrating as its easy to grow in pots / trays

Anyone got any idea why ???

They really don't like aquaponics do they.My theory is,it's too "wet" for them

Gotta agree Terra, veg prices are nuts atm. My systems have been a bit neglected of late too as I've been putting all my spare time into preparing my mothers house for sale. Finally got it on the market two weeks ago, but I'm hearing echoes of Get Smart in my mind "missed it by".....you get the idea.
So for the last 2 weeks I've been bottling tomatoes from the AP systems and the veggie patch, getting my winter crops planted (had plenty of seeds on hand) and yesterday I sprayed roundup over a section of the backyard lawn to plant extra veggies in once the grass has keeled over. I've got a good batch of fish ready to harvest too.
I'm considering it an experiment to see how long I can last without having to venture out to the supermarket. I prefer homemade bread so had plenty of flour on hand and always keep a good supply of pasta in the pantry (Mrs Nhibbo is Italian) so I'm really only lacking milk, eggs and red meat (which I normally do without for months at a time anyway).
Yep....no one is laughing at peppers now and though I'm no prepper, I do prefer the taste of my own fresh produce.

Thinking that all the fresh raw produce in the supermarkets has to be handled by someone while strong protection measures are obviously taken its not hard to imagine how contamination could occur

In particular the lovely baby spinach , every leaf has to be picked and packed

We have a lot of reserves on hand as well heaps of frozen tomatoes , bottled fruit , heaps of Cod frozen , we usually buy a big packet of chicken and freeze some each time I know we have probably 10 of those packs

Should empty the freezers and do a reshuffle to use the older stuff that's in there first will be surprising how much is in there

Ive got a wheelbarrow full of Butternuts and another crop setting now I might buy some as well (dirt cheap here at the moment but I bet that wont last long)

On the Baby spinach I might try a few in a DWC , I don't have much spare flow to run any more siphons so I recon I might set up a couple of beds to grow mostly lettuce that will free up space in my gravel beds

I have a long rectangular container that ive set up and planted baby spinach so that's under way

For now we are swamped with greens from my Kang Kong that's been a real winner this year that's growing in my small two bed system, with the garlic chives .

When I look around ive got a good start plenty of spots I can use im going to plant peas under my fruit trees .

We get 5 eggs a day

Not a good time for me to be trying to get my winter seedlings either as my summer crops disappear I’ve found bunnings and the likes sold out to the panic shoppers who unfortunately will kill them anyway. So I’m looking at a few empty spaces until resupply.

Oh bugger Liney. I hope you are able to get hold of some soon. I've just given my extra seeds to my neighbour who was in the same boat as you.
I wonder if a national BYAP seed swap would work?
