Have any AP'ers in the Southern Suburbs tried spangled perch in their setups or simply caught them fishing in the Perth catchment? They are now resident in a number of lakes in the Cannington area and have apparently decimated the gambusia populations.

Up to 330mm not bad size and tolerate good range of temps by the looks.

If you allow them to become overstocked then size is compromised. It becomes a problem similar to yabbies in dams. If you want to end up with a dam full of undersized yabbies, don't fish them. So guess the key is lots of feed inputs and regular fishing?

Easiest lake to catch them in is southern Brookland Greens sand lake in Cannington, best methods are: Tiny prawn pieces cast out and slowly wound in, Silver minnow lures wound in at medium pace, Cathedral marron traps cast four feet out or up against lake walls with fish burley or prawns inside.
They will bite eagerly during the day but will watch you closely, better to catch at night, they do eventually catch onto lures and stop biting this does not happen with prawns.

Good eating like most predators but lots of bones.

So someone in the Cannington area is specifically releasing them by the sounds of it.. Giving fish keepers a bad name.

Need to evict the barra first! Or I wonder if they would cohabit with sp? Barra room will be occupied by trout in a few months.

From what Ive read they're not good at co-habitating with any other species fish. But, I doubt anyone has actually tried it.

Dont put them with the SP as one of my references says "very aggressive towards other fish". You dont want to go losing your Silvers for the sake of having a fish that will probably not exceed 200mm in size.
