Its important to remember that the antibiotics (or herbal remedy) you use to kill the bacteria on the fish, may also kill the bacteria in the biofilter. My microbioogy is a bit rusty, and I couldn't tell you about gram positive, gram negative etc and what kills what. Someone above was right, that the remedies used in aquaculture wouldn't always work in AP, but not just because we want to eat the fish. Unless you can isolate the fish into a quarantine tank I would be reluctant to treat them with anything except de-stress strategies.

I Agree .

i wonder if the binding agents, preservitives ect in fish feed also kill some of the bacteria.

more then likely. some feed would be worse then others.

i just spoke to an aqua technician about it and he only knows one company that uses antibiotics. they are an oyster farmer.

this doesn't mean others don't use antibiotics, but if they do they don't let it be known.

his advice was to harvest, sterilize the tank and start over.

i spoke to him about pathogens and diseases and he said that bacteria will convert them into non threatening forms.

i suspected that might be the case.

when you say you have 3 tanks joined how is the water getting into the growbeds? is it possible there are dead spots in that tank and not all of the water is reaching the growbeds?

cheers
