So a 400 Ltr tank would support around 8 blue barrels halves :-) keeping in mind that a tank could be filled up, and the 1/2 blue barrels could have around 100 Ltr of their 120 Ltr filled :-)

Hmmmmmm

Your 1500ltr/ Hour. How well does it flood and drain your beds?
Length of time etc?

The pump I have fills the the half tumbs in about 8 minutes, thats with a stand pipe with a single 6mm hole for drainage. Then takes about 20 min to drain. The pump is 12V and rated to 2m head. Payed about $70 at "B".

Would you say there was plenty of strength in the pump to fill 8 * 1/2 growbeds?

To if it takes 8 minutes to fill 2 growbeds, how long would you estimate to fill 8 growbeds?

If it was a 240v pump instead of 12v would that make a difference?

This is getting a bit technical, I think the pump woud handle 4 half barrels in the 15 minutes (350-400l pumped in the 15 min). With 8 you would need a bigger pump if using standpipes or longer time with auto syphons. At least with a bigger pump you can reduce the flow and/or expand the system.
When I get a chance I measure the amount of water going in/out

Got the bucket and stopwatch out, so have some numbers for you :rr:

The pump (1500l/hour or 2.5m head) is pumping about 675 l/hour to the beds( just over 1 meter high) thats 169 l/15 min pump cycle.

The 1/2 barrels hold about 40l of water when full and drain off about 5l in the time it takes to fill.

So if you had 4 1/2 barrels this size pump would only just fill the barrels in a 15 minute pump cycle.
