Ah yeah looks like its been a few years sence I bought my last gallon... Price is higher across the board. Id say try the swamp water thing. Iv been doing that for my in ground garden with good success this year. No idea what effect it might have on fish though... Im guessing it contains a fair bit of extra nitrogen too which might not be great but if dosed slowly with a drip feeder it could be fine.

I don't know most of the fish bin set ups that people have here.
I just buried my (4) 20 gal. tubs in the ground with the rim about
2inches above ground. In between and all around the tubs,
I buried 1 inch blueboard insulation to keep the sun from heating
up the ground around the tubs.
Then I poured about 2 inches of concrete around the tubs.
The goal was to keep the tub at a constant (ground temperature).
So far, in North Central Florida, in the heat of summer 100 degrees yesterday,
the water seems to remain cool. I'm hopeful it'll keep the same temp when
the few frosty nights come around in the winter.
I'm finding the cool water is keeping my Swiss chard happy.
But I have to keep the pump(s) running from 12 -4:30 "the heat of the day"
They wilt & get soft, but by morning they're stiff as a board again
I'll be posting some pics of a new garden I've been working on sometime soon.
