The glue used in bonding marine and structural grade ply woods is phenol formalderhyde resin which is used in a product called Resocinol. Best results are achieved by heat and pressure curing. While in the liquid state it emits a gas that is carcinogenic.
Structural ply is often much cheaper than marine ply because there is much more produced and marine ply is more likely to be made of selective surfaces for other reasons other than strength.
Although the glue is water proof by design I'm unsure whether any leaching of cured resin occurs.

Pete.

Hi Tonzz, we didn't notice any ill effects, but also, our rafts weren't touching the water surface either, we had our suspended 20mm (i think) from the surface

Apparently they are related. I believe the biologists at the hatchery said they were using Golden to breed Brook Trout? I'm happy to hear that they are more tolerant to temperature swings because everything I've read suggests otherwise. The truth we learn from experience and ours made it through a very hot Summer with water temperatures of 68°F (20°C) so I think your info is good.

Hi Boss, interesting, i will look at that, thanks. In regards to the temps, these seem more temperature tolerant than the rainbows and browns. i was on the phone today with a mate talking about the same thing, his R&Brns are suffering from the past week of hot temps, but mine aren't.

Cheers Mate,
