Thanks boss:)
I believe in open source research and will continue to publish my results.
Not much going wrong at the moment, so nothing to report:)

I used a floating hatching tray(very old fashion) in the fingerling tanks and had no issues till first feed.
Obviously I could have had an easier time at that stage if I had a hatching tray with the right size elongated holes for the hatchlings to drop through but on the other hand it allowed me to observe, take notes and learn a bit more.
I have drawn up a floating hatching tray I will get cnc cut out of acrylic one can float in the existing ap ft.
If anyone is interested just pm me and I can email the cutting files and you take it to your local plastic supplier and grab a tube of aquarium silicon on the way home:) I have two versions so far. One for salmon size eggs and one for rainbow trout.

Mine seem to be doing relatively OK..

I started with 11... one died the first day and I assume it was stress.. leaving 10...
Sadly one was found dead a few days ago... died with classic gaping mouth suggesting an DO issue..

It's interesting that the sociology of 10 tiny fingerlings in a largish tank, has them living in different areas and depths... I wonder if the last death resulted from hanging out in a poorly oxygenated area... that is all I can think of....

I have the small chiller available, but until i rejig the whole system to separate the cold from the hot System, I am using the temperature as a trigger for activating the emergency chillier... I have had the system up to 26C with no issue.. but I do add another air pump.. 26.5 is the top temperature encountered, at that temperature I dramatically reduced the flood-n-drain cycles and activated the chiller...

I AM having trouble feeding them..
I have come to the conclusion that with so few individuals, there is no "trigger" response and so with floating food.. no one eats.. anything... :support:
From desperation, I have turned to sinking food, and fling regular and tiny amounts to the four courners, and I do see them eating... phew... :shifty:

I assume that LARGE numbers would mean there is no point hiding in a corner , and so herd response would be stronger... just like the silvers, who wait for one to move to the surface, before they go mad and smash the floating food on mass...

I wonder how serious the magic 26c figure is.. I'm pleased that I have some control over the solar insolation and can reliably maintain a 26C max when the external is 36C....

The spreading tomato tree and the Sweet Potato vines are also doing a good job in shading beds...

Not that I am ever likely to be in a position to test it, but I had fantastic success with Cichlids, and coke-bottle tumblers..
Ie a tiny water pump feeding JUST enough flow to keep the eggs moving...

Sorry for not updating for a while!
All is good here and we have a fantastic time...
I am revamping my hatchery. Sore back, bloody fingers, late nights...
The salmon are averaging 50g and are behaving well:)
Photos and all coming soon.
Cheers Ben

Big hello, to all of you fantastic people and a bit of an apology for not sticking my head up for a while. Greatest thanks to rendang (Steve ) for his salmon husbandry skills! Also to everyone ever sharing experiences in ap on this valued platform!and the ppl running it!
Yes it’s me, originally benG, then 2,now 3.2;)
I am not very good at keeping records of my own passwords so.... (admin might give me my credits back)
Better I am at keeping records of data in a system, use it, work with it, and do I have a big job at hand!
Besides looking for gunagallas telephon number ((rendang lost it), pls pm me as I am in your area mid December and would like to say hello)... there is a quick update on the salmon: yes, they are still kickin, yes, they are at breeding age now(caviar in the swirl filter)...no, I would not recommend salmon as the ideal backyard fish, but if one really wants, it’s doable!
Cheers ben
