Hi Rob all well with us both here, Molly still working out of Perth and we slipped into Adelaide to see the Daughter on the weekend. No time to see any one this trip.

Ben, was good to meet you and look over your system, great meal at your cafe and on the wife's stop over list now.
Look forward to a day when you, Rob and myself can get together for a bit of a session.

Catch you Wednesday Charlie best to the good wife and kids.

Sounds good Charlie! If you are coming up the inland route I'll be closer then Ipswich! Always happy for AP visitors! Murphy's Law usually means I'll be busy which is good trade wise, unfortunate on a personal level ahaha

:D Sorry mate. Haven't been posting clips or updates for a while now. Hope to have something clip wise soon.
Systems still ticking over well. Have decided to depopulate the fish farm & have a big cook up with the 12 Jades in there with some family & friends. Will then start on the 30 or so jades in the aquaponics. Am aiming to splitting the 50 + silvers between the 2 tanks once the jades are out. Also started to look for some troughs to make up 1 or 2 raft beds & am looking at adding 1 more root pouch flood & drain to see how that works out. Just need to find the time & coin to do it

Have taken out 2 monster celery plants that were starting to take over the bed to make room for some greens.

Have planted out 4 perennial spinach, 8 bok choy, mushroom plant & some brahmi this week.
Will see if I can do a proper update through the week.

Here's a pic of the grow beds I just nipped down to take.

Found this small fella swimming all by its lonesome today in the tank.

The tail looks like it has a rot of some kind but no ulcerations present.
All other fins look OK, nice slime coat, gills look OK & it's got clear eyes.
The fish is close to 2 years old & a runt compared to most of its 50+ tank mates, all of which look fine. Would take some out to double check but water temp is about 30°C & don't want to stress them.

Had a bit of a look around & the only thing I can come up with is tail rot but that normally occurs in fingerlings from what the PDF in the link below says.

Here's a look at how the system is set up at the moment. This clip was shot 10 or so days ago so nothing has changed except for a few 37°+ days in a row

Part of me is hoping that it's just a runt as it looked healthy other than the tail.
Does anyone have any ideas or do you think I'm on the right track with the tail rot?
Either way I think I'll be salting the system.
Cheers folks.

Looks like a slight physical abnormality to me (see paintbrush tail in the link you posted). None of the other fins look bad as far as I can see. The reddish color at the tail is the only thing that bugs me about this.

Great job on the system update video :thumbright:.

Thanks for pointing that out Scotty. :thumbright: I passed by the physical deformity section with out even looking thinking the worst.
We've had 3 other fish from that batch show signs of deformities, 1 twisted jaw & 2 with twists in the spine near the tail so am thinking that could have something to do with it. This one had a slight downward "kink" that's hard to see in the picture. I looked for scratches or sores on the tail & there were none so am leaning towards it just being deformed.

Our silvers hug the bottom of the tank normally so I don't see them but with the warmer weather (have added extra air  ) we've seen them about ½ way up the tank a lot more so I think that's why this fella stood out.

Will be salting the system as a precaution as I don't think much would be left from the initial salting 12+ months ago.
Would like to pull a few more fish to see what they look like as well but will wait until the water temp drops a few degrees so as to not stress them too much.
Does that sound like an OK plan of action ?

I decided to do a clip on it but not until after I tossed it into the chook pen for the girls to have a feed on. Came out slightly worse for wear though with a few peck marks on it

I think that's the best course Rob :thumbright: . Your salting as a precaution but otherwise treating it as a physical deformity. I'm not sure what level you're going to salt to but low levels for stress and slime coat building should be enough unless you see something to indicate it's more than a physical deformity.

Not hard to imagine. I'm still getting the hang of having chooks but the girls can be pretty aggressive when there is some protein around.

Has been a few since then :thumbright: This is the latest,

Had a few issues before this with crook fish due to my not managing the system properly but it looks like that's all been rectified now.

Will be popping the new pump in today If I get time & swap over the shade cloth too. Daughter is home for a few days so must put her to work while I can.
