I'm not a Koi person but they do live in frozen ponds. I ave Tilapia so I have to keep them well heated here in Michigan. It's like 2 degrees outside right now. I've often thought that for a good ROI koi would be better than edible fish. You can get a 1000 watt bucket heater and raise the temperature but you'd best put a timer on it if it's not on a thermostat. Once you get the temp up your aquarium heater might be able to maintain it.

Big milestone today! Managed to get the fish out from the aquaponics into the aquarium. Was a much harder operation than I had hoped. Getting everything out of the tank proved harder than I thought... everything was just a bit far to reach so I had to pull the pump and heater out using their cords (don't do that at home :naughty: ) and had to try and find a hook to pull out the remaining 1gal pot (I used it to provide somewhere to hide for the fish) and a bracket that had fallen off the old heater. The hook was very borderline for length, had to lean over the edge of the tank (leaving two red lines across my chest lol) but I managed to get the obstacles out. The actual netting of the fish wasnt hard although I had trouble getting them out of the netting so they had a bit of a drop into the bag I was using for transport :shifty:
They are swimming around in their new tank now though. I just hope they survive :dontknow: It was about a 5-10c temprature jump so a bit stressful I'd suspect.

Cheers All!
Eb.
