Wow, 2 years since last post. Here goes.

Pump was replaced after the first died out. This one is now 12mths plus and still going strong. Airlines are all yellowed and brittle, changeover to new silicone airlines ongoing, with the Airpump still going strong after 4yrs. Bought another one just in case. All airstones were changed over, every few months or so.

Trout gone, replaced with silvers, for the last 2 years. I think there's just over 10 left in there. Took 2 out last weekend and surprise surprise, 1 male (the smaller), 1 female. Male was squirting out white gunk all over, and the female had eggs in her.

(Q) I wonder if I had left them in there, would there be any spawning happening? Mine system's a CHIFT PIST, with variable pump times with a SLO in the fish tank to the GBs, so the fish are usually quite happy in there.

Both ended up cooked (seasoned and wrapped in tin foil to be oven baked) and eaten, the egg sacs were like little cocktail sausages, totally yummy.

GBs stocked with tomato, basil, squash and capsicums for now. Winter time was mixture of lettuces etc.

I'll get some photos and more after the summer season which traditionally is the worst for me, due to the location of the system in the open and with very little shade, creating lots of water loss via evaporation and growth.

Interestingly, I've been pretty lax over winter and did not test the water for at least a month or two. When i did, all was well. Good to know nature balances things out more or less with little intervention.
