Looks like a competition for the worlds cheapest AP system lol!

Hopefully my results will make up for lack of appearance.

I'm from Houston as well. Really interested in doing a system on my apartments small balcony 3x6 total spac. I was thinking something vertical.

- Anyone done one of these?
- What food grows the best in Houston's weather?

There are several options for growing vertically but one thing to be aware or, as I found out quickly is that sprayers will quickly become clogged...In my limited opinion you should opt for a stacked NFT setup VS vertical grow towers. With NFT you would eliminate the use of sprayers.

Your second question depends on what you like eating and what time of year you are growing. There are two grow seasons here one is in early spring where you start most of the crops in Feb-Mar. and the fall crop you would want to start in early september.

There are ways to grow things you like to eat even if they don't like our climate. For example; most greens hate the heat but I like greens...so during the summer I grow a lot of SE asian plants that have edible foliage.
Also sweet potato greens are edible and they love the heat.
For the fall crop I just plant standard greens like kale and swiss chard without ever having to worry about them freezing really.

Otherwise pretty much any heat/water loving crop does good here. Cucumbers, egg plant, Okra, peppers, beans, ect

Thanks for the ideas.
Have you seen any designs of good vertical NFT for my first setup?
Would love to hear the list of produce you grow each season.
