Sounds not much different from here temperature wise and relatively mild, you should be able to do well with cool season crops and maybe some of the warm season ones with a bit of luck :thumbright:

hi guys,

i finished the construction of my project and i started cycling.
it is going very well : i have nitrates already, and very few nitrites.
i did my cycling with... the famous peeponics technic.
salads are planted already... and they are definitely growing much faster than in my traditionnal greenhouse, it's great.

here is a small video in french of the greenhouse:

Looks great :thumbright: .

What are the round things next to the spring clips on the greenhouse? Are these extra attachment for the panels and do they come off easily? This looks very much like my greenhouse in design and I take the panels off in Summer and replace them with window screen for better ventilation but I was thinking you might just take off a panel and grow larger plants out into the yard (like squash, tomatoes or melons). Here's a look at my system build (not specifically for this question but it might give you some ideas)- http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9511&hilit=Scotty%27s+second+system&start=45

Yes, it's extra attachment.
My region can be quite stormy.

It's an other great idea, thanks Scotty!
I'll definitely do that in summer.
You're actually solving one of my current problems :)

hi guys,

a small update on my project.

GB : great salad growth, though leaves were thin. aromatics are going great, and tomatoes as well (although, no fruits yet... only flowers...). i planted also a melon, which grew big, and flowers a lot, but still no fruit.

DWC: after a great first month (salads, strawberries), i had a filamental algae attack because i was too lazy to paint my DWC ponds. i did it but too late. algae grew over the roots. the plants started to suffer from various carencies at the same time.

at the moment, all my plants in the DWC are suffering from root rot. roots are brown, which is pretty sad to see. on the other had, plants are doing great in the GB.

i treated those filamental algae with this product, which might have been a mistake, i dont know : http://www.clearpond.com.au/products/al ... rect-250ml

pH 7.4, nitrites 0.1ppm, nitrates 5ppm. 40 small gold fishes.
any advices?
should i perform any treatment against root rot?
or should i only cultivate strawberries in my DWC, which are delicious and seems to be the only root rotting resistant specie?

Sounds like the product uses Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2). Probably gone already. If that's what it was I wouldn't expect a problem although I doubt it's entirely safe for AP use. H2O2 has some antimicrobial uses as well and I'm not sure what it would do to a grow beds filtration ability - a lot depends on the dilution factor though (Interesting site - http://www.theaquariumwiki.com/Hydrogen_peroxide). Many organisms have an enzyme called catalase that breaks down hydrogen peroxide. FYI - the usual solution is to block the light until the algae dies. Once this happens if your system is well planted it's usually not a problem but try to keep extra light from entering when possible.

hi scotty,

i was told by the guy who sold me this product, that it was only natural stuff inside...
peat juice, and some other things which i can't remember.
but of course, AP is so unknown in France, that i'm not sure that i should have trusted him.

anyway, i decided to throw away my sick plants, and to try to start new ones, and also to change my water in the DWC, even if i have a pretty good glow over there: i cant help but thinking that those mushrooms on the roots have to die, before that i can grow again stuff with serenity.

Probably just as well since we really can't be certain what the ingredients are.
