Hi everybody

I am new to aquaponic but have read many books including the bernstein book in the last 2 weeks. I am obsessed with getting my aquaponic system up and running but as it will be located in the living room it has to be kind of beautiful.

So i am thinking an aquarium system with ornamental fisch and grow beds for lettuce and herbs and maybe flowering veggies. I have drawn a first plan that includes an aquarium on the bottom then two layers of grow bed connected with a vertical 4 inch pipe up until just under the ceiling that should on the one hand cover the pvc tube from pump in tank to grow beds but also serve als vertical grow bed and drain liquid back go aquarium. At the same time i would like a waterfall effect dropping from top layer to bottom layer and then from there into the tank.

I have not seen anything like that on the internet so i am wondering if there might be technical concerns or limitations i am not considering. I am attaching my drawn planand also a picture of a system that is simpler but shows the kind of design i would like to go for.

Thanks for your comments and considerations.

Hi Nidilukas,

That looks like it would work and provide a nice ornamental garden/aquarium for your living room. If the garden space is not enough filter for the fish load, you could use additional aquarium filtering to keep the water clean, but with the right fish load that could be a perfect fit.

Keep us posted on your progress! :thumbright:

I am considering something like this as well for wheat grass and lettuce type plants. I have to wonder, being that this is for a living room or visual type location, if the water clearness is going to be appropriate for such a situation. A person is not going to want murkyish water in such a setting.
