Still battling aphids though, anyone have a better method besides soap? It works but I need to do it many times per day. Also I don't want to introduce a ladybug infestation into my basement...

Hm, so 4 large goldfish in a 30 gallon system seems to be insufficient for getting anything going. Ammonia levels are very low (nil), as are nitrites and nitrates. Ph hovers at about 7.3. Seeds will sprout quickly, but then growth is really really slow, which makes sense.

I've read that 4 goldfish in a 30 gallon tank is already pushing it in terms of fish density.

Any thoughts? Feed them more or..? Less frequent fill/drain cycles?
