Hi all, just getting my thread up and running.
It's day one for my system and I'll hopefully be able to post weekly updates.
I built my system other than the pump and ft out of bits and pieces I had laying around.
system specs;
pump: aquatec 1050 18w pond pump $10 from a guy who was going out of business
Fish tank: 90 litre water feature tub $19 from a salvage place
grow beds: 2 × plastic crates from mums garage. About 600L×400W×275D. Free
Grow media: scoria my parents have been removing from their garden. Free
stand pipes and bell syphons from a bunch of pvc offcuts and fitt8ngs from the side of the road. Free
Poly pipe and fittings also from the side of the road.
table for the grow bed is made from the internal frame of an old futon.
I'm also building a pressure filter from one of the legs.

I spent most of the day washing the scoria and tinkering with the syphons.
I'm now running the system through a bucket of scoria and cushion stuffing from the futon to filter out the floaties.
Also giving it a bit of an amonia prime every couple of hours.
ill post the photo's of the system as soon as my phone is charged enough.

Yes, welcome daniel0986. How is the salvage system going now after one week up and running?

I like your cushion stuffing idea for use as a mechanical filter. I don't suppose the material is much different from aquarium filter wool or floss.
