Cheers guys.
Yup, I couldn't quite believe the auto siphon from the FT's until I saw it in real life myself. I googled auto siphon videos, and that's where I came across the auto start over flow siphon.
The good thing is, is that you can pull from the bottom of you FT's to remove solids as well.
But true, very sophisticated for a 1st system.

The GB's def need some more support, and then some thatching around the base to pretty it up, but mostly to keep my staffies out.

The Nally Megabins I picked up for $250.00 each. I lay of been able to get them a tad cheaper. The bloke at Drovers said "make us an offer". Seeing as there $350-$400 new, I offered $250, and he excepted straight away. They're basically in new condition, and have been used to hold live seafood.

Are freshwater animals still seafood?

I did one similar probably not as nice looking
used a large bucket next to the grow bed added a no hole over flow to take the water from the grow bed to the bucket, in the bucket I place a bell siphon which emptied back to the fish tank.
worked great for nearly a year then I removed it all when I rebuilt the grow beds.
my grow beds where higher than everything else.

Nice one esckay, have you got any pic's? I'm always up for ideas and reinventions....

Very nice Stevie. I did nearly the exact same setup. I oriented my beds differently due to how the sun comes across, but virtually the same. Can't wait to see it planted and full of fish.

I shall have a look for you and if I find some I shall post them here I didn't have many photos then as I was experiment with so much stuff.
I did it originally because I had made the grow beds from timber and liner and didn't want a hole in the bottom of the grow bed but now I have moved to using U siphons

Hey Esckay,
How are you finding the U siphon? Have you had any dramas with it going again after air getting into it because of a power out or anything? They work sweet if water is always passing through it, but can be dramas if not...

I use the u siphons because I find them very reliable and easy to setup the start once the pipe is covered and then stop when air gets in the bottom
very occasionally they will only trickle because the pump filter is full and not enough water is getting to the bed.
no holes over flows have trouble with air but u siphons work very well and air is not an issue because they recharge every time the bed fills up
the only thing that can be difficult with them is that once you have placed your hole in the side of the bed that's it that's the height of your water and its not something that can be adjusted easily. I use a 90 degree inspection bend inside the growbed that way if I decide to make it constant flood I can just take the inspection cover off.
