Right So I built a pond in the sun and now I know it was not such a good thing. I will put a Shade sail up over it and keep the future sun off but how do I get rid of the algae? I have no fish in there but will do in a week or so.

Help please….

Some patience... A green algal phase is to be expected in the early days..

give it a try with barley straw, normally works fine. (organic algae control treatment)

Hi Yavimaya, i agree with you, if you do get green water and use Barley Straw or a UV light the dreaded String Algae thrives with all the extra light you have just given it,in the UK we called it Blanket Weed because that is is exactly what it does if left.On the plus side when your growbeds are planted and growing you basically starve the algae out of your system,plus your fish eat what does try to grow. I have a 60 litre tank where the pump and airstone is in for my tubes, the opening is in full light and developed string algae around the top,so i put two fingerling Tilapia in the tank,end of the algae.
Barley Straw will help with the string algae but wont stop it,saying that every system is different each responds slightly different.
