UPDATE:

Filtration:

I bought this 6 gallon carboy to use for my radial flow filter because I really like the idea of using a container with a conical bottom. I was on the fence about using it because it's a #1 plastic (Polyethylene terephthalate) and there is concern in the scientific community about leaching antimony into drinking water. After further research I have found that 99% of that concern seems to come from when the stuff is heated up, such as when a water bottle is left in a 100 degree car all week. It's a "Better Bottle" carboy. My impressions of it are good so far. Very tough, doesn't smell, looks pretty good. Anybody have any experience fitting a ball valve on the bottom of these?
